Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross (Heb 12:1-2a) For consider him that endured such contradiction of sinners against himself…. (Heb 12:3a)
What is stealing your time away that is causing you not to produce fruit for the kingdom of God? What is the weight(s) or the sin(s)? It’s time to examine yourself and do some pruning. “And now also the axe is laid unto the root of the trees: therefore every tree which bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.” (Mt 3:10) As we run this race with patience we should be producing fruit continually. “But that on the good ground are they, which in an honest and good heart, having heard the word, keep it, and bring forth fruit with patience.” (Lk 8:15) “Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me.” (Jn 15:4) Jesus looked ahead at “the joy that was set before him” and “endured the cross”. If we are to bear fruit we need to remember Jesus. “For consider him that endured such contradiction of sinners against himself, lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds.” (Heb 12:3) “Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples.” (Jn 15:8)
