John 17:3 – Jesus speaking
3 And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.

1 John 5:20 – The Apostle John speaking with the understanding.
20 And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life.

Jesus is the true God, and eternal life. Jesus is God manifest in the flesh. Jesus is the name of God which was revealed to us in the New Testament. It is a marvel with the Apostle John’s words that were inspired by God that plainly teaches us that Jesus is the true God and eternal life that anyone would continue to believe otherwise. In 1 John chapter 5 the Apostle cover’s without doubt who Jesus Christ really is and that was that He is the true God and eternal life. The name God revealed to us in the New Testament for himself.

The Apostle John again speaks this mystery in a clear manner that is again in direct contrast to the Trinity as he had just done in 1 John chapter 5.

The Apostle John starts the same epistle with these words:

1 John 1:1-4
1 That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the Word of life;
2 (For the life was manifested, and we have seen it, and bear witness, and shew unto you that eternal life, which was with the Father, and was manifested unto us;)
3 That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ.
4 And these things write we unto you, that your joy may be full.

Notice verse 3 doesn’t mention the Holy Ghost at all in part of the fellowship. He explained to you why our fellowship was with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ. It was because the Word of life is the Word and the Word is God. And God is the father of all that is created and since God is a Spirit and the Word is God the Apostle teaches us who God is. The Word which is God and God is a Spirit became incarnate as the Son of God. Fully man and fully God. This is why “truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ.”

Look again at verses 1 and 2. When the Apostle John speaks here of Jesus he says he was of the Word of life. Not the Word of life. This because Jesus Christ was also fully man. So he was of the Word of life. Otherwise you take away from the humanity of Jesus Christ.

The Apostle John understood that the Word is God as he stated to us in John chapter 1.

John 1:1
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

So he is explaining to us who God truly is and this is concluded in the same epistle in 1 John chapter 5 which expressly teaches us who God is and that is “the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life.”

This in no way takes away from the Holy Ghost. It takes away from the doctrine of the Trinity, because God is a Spirit and as the Spirit of God he became flesh to redeem mankind back unto himself. But this union had to be God in the flesh both fully God and fully man.

The doctrine of the Trinity confuses everything in the New Testament and then takes their understanding of the New Testament and try to force it to fit the Old Testament and it doesn’t work because it denies who God is. God being a Spirit prepared himself a body through a virgin birth by means of the Spirit hovering over the virgin Mary. The Holy Spirit hovered over the virgin Mary because God is a Spirit. Thus Jesus Christ was both fully man and fully God. Not as different individuals in the Godhead. The scriptures tell us that (in Jesus) “For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.” (Colossians 2:9)

The fulness of the Godhead dwelled in the body of Jesus of which was the body of God. The Trinitarian doctrine obscures this. Which is it? Is Jesus in the Godhead or is the Godhead in Jesus? Colossians 2:9 says the latter.

Come let us Grow Together: Predestinated according to the Counsel of His Own Will

Concerning predestination in scripture we are told:

“In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will: That we should be to the praise of his glory, who first trusted in Christ. In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory.” (Eph 1:11-14)

The focus for this lesson being “In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will:” If you have a purpose and work all things after the counsel of your own will this is taking place in your mind. Your purpose would consist of your thoughts, your plan, and your reasoning for the purpose that you have within your mind.

“Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot: Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you,” (1 Peter 1:18-20)

Christ was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for us!

“And to this agree the words of the prophets; as it is written, After this I will return, and will build again the tabernacle of David, which is fallen down; and I will build again the ruins thereof, and I will set it up: That the residue of men might seek after the Lord, and all the Gentiles, upon whom my name is called, saith the Lord, who doeth all these things. Known unto God are all his works from the beginning of the world.” (Acts 15:15-18)

To know all your works from the beginning of the world would take place in your mind. These works would consist of your thoughts, your plan, and your reasoning for the purpose that you have within your mind. That would be to know all your works from the beginning.

“Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:” (Matt 25:34)

Listen carefully what Jesus said, “the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world”. We just read above that Christ “was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you” and “Known unto God are all his works from the beginning of the world.” So in the mind of God which would include his thoughts, his plan, and his reasoning for the purpose that he had within his mind concerning Christ since “Known unto God are all his works from the beginning of the world”, Jesus, the Christ manifested to us, can say “Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world”.

“The beast that thou sawest was, and is not; and shall ascend out of the bottomless pit, and go into perdition: and they that dwell on the earth shall wonder, whose names were not written in the book of life from the foundation of the world, when they behold the beast that was, and is not, and yet is.” (Rev 17:8)

Again in the mind of God he knows who are written in the book of life from the foundation of the world even as “all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.” (Rev 13:8) This revealing that in the mind of God he had a purpose and a plan within his thoughts concerning his purpose “In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will” Again this all taking place within the mind of God.

“Therefore it is of faith, that it might be by grace; to the end the promise might be sure to all the seed; not to that only which is of the law, but to that also which is of the faith of Abraham; who is the father of us all, (As it is written, I have made thee a father of many nations,) before him whom he believed, even God, who quickeneth the dead, and calleth those things which be not as though they were.” (Rm 4:16-17)

Since “Known unto God are all his works from the beginning of the world” and God “calleth those things which be not as though they were” and Christ “was foreordained before the foundation of the world,” and “was manifest in these last times for” us, this was the purpose of Christ within the mind of God “who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will” since he knew that mankind would sin in the Garden of Eden and need a savior. This all taking place within the mind of God as your purpose would consist of your thoughts, your plan, and your reasoning for the purpose that you have within your mind.

“He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life” is choice and the removing of the name out of the book of life according to the scripture can take place, however calling those things that be not as though they were and knowing the end from the beginning God knows who will ultimately be written in the book of life from the foundation of the world whose names were not blotted out. Still being omniscient and still giving us choice yet still being predestined and still knowing the end from the beginning.

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” (Jn 1:1)

The Word is God’s mind, plan, purpose, and reasoning. Let me share with you what the Word for our English language which is the Logos in the Greek language means according to the Strong’s Concordance.

Strong’s Concordance – 3056. logos, log’-os; from G3004; something said (including the thought); by implication a topic (subject of discourse), also reasoning (the mental faculty) or motive; by extension a computation; specifically (with the art. in John) the Divine Expression (i.e. Christ)

This eternal purpose of God, which he purposed in Christ Jesus our Lord, (Eph 3:11) existed as the Word of God of whom he is. The answer for how the Word was with God lies in the very meaning of the word Logos of the Greek language of which the translators translated into English as the Word. To show that God had an eternal purpose in his mind, plan, and reasoning concerning Christ we are told so. “To the intent that now unto the principalities and powers in heavenly places might be known by the church the manifold wisdom of God, According to the eternal purpose which he purposed in Christ Jesus our Lord:” (Eph 3:10-11)

Our God is one and the Word that was with God and was God is with God as the mind of God which would include his thoughts, his plan, and his reasoning for the purpose that he had within his mind concerning Christ and the salvation of mankind thus making the trinitarian doctrine a false doctrine of men based upon the traditions of their fathers.

This question is constantly being asked in one form or another. Why did God allow this? Why did God allow this tornado to kill all these people? Why did God allow my children to die? Why did God allow satan to attack my family? God is just, faithful, upright, and righteous! God is Sovereign! God is all powerful! God works all things after the counsel of his own will! “See now that I, even I, am he, and there is no god with me: I kill, and I make alive; I wound, and I heal: neither is there any that can deliver out of my hand. For I lift up my hand to heaven, and say, I live for ever.” (Deut 32:39-40)

Is it God’s fault that mankind disobeyed him? “And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.” (Gen 2:16-17) “God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?” (Num 23:19) “Behold, all souls are mine; as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is mine: the soul that sinneth, it shall die.” (Ezek 18:4)

Is God unjust because mankind disobeyed him? Must God give account of himself to man? “Remember this, and shew yourselves men: bring it again to mind, O ye transgressors. Remember the former things of old: for I am God, and there is none else; I am God, and there is none like me, Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure:” (Isa 46:8-10) “Nay but, O man, who art thou that repliest against God? Shall the thing formed say to him that formed it, Why hast thou made me thus?” (Rm 9:20)

“Know ye that the LORD he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture. Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name. For the LORD is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations.” (Psa 100:3-5)

It is man that must give account to God. “But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment. For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned.” (Mt 12:36-37)

“Every moving thing that liveth shall be meat for you; even as the green herb have I given you all things. But flesh with the life thereof, which is the blood thereof, shall ye not eat. And surely your blood of your lives will I require; at the hand of every beast will I require it, and at the hand of man; at the hand of every man’s brother will I require the life of man. Whoso sheddeth man’s blood, by man shall his blood be shed: for in the image of God made he man.” (Gen 9:3-6)

“Therefore as by the offence of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life. For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous. Moreover the law entered, that the offence might abound. But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound: That as sin hath reigned unto death, even so might grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord.” (Rm 5:18-21)

“Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth.” (Mk 9:23) “And Jesus rebuked the devil; and he departed out of him: and the child was cured from that very hour. Then came the disciples to Jesus apart, and said, Why could not we cast him out? And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you. “The Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptations, and to reserve the unjust unto the day of judgment to be punished:” (2 Peter 2:9) “Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content. I know both how to be abased, and I know how to abound: every where and in all things I am instructed both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need. I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.” (Phil 4:11-13) “Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.” (1 Jn 4:4)

“For it is better, if the will of God be so, that ye suffer for well doing, than for evil doing. Predestination, Choice, and the God of the Universe

Let me begin this lesson by stating that this particular doctrine of predestination is a very difficult doctrine to understand. Two passages of scripture are very helpful for us to keep in mind as we study this lesson.

“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.” (Isaiah 55:8-9)

“For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.” (1 Corinthians 13:12)

Jeremiah 1:5a
5 Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee;

We are predestinated according to the foreknowledge of God, but does this then mean that we do not have a choice?

Romans 8:29-31 Brackets inserted by me
29 For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren. {the first begotten of the dead (Rev 1:5); the firstfruits of them that slept. (1 Cor 15:20)… in the likeness of his death, burial, and resurrection.}
30 Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified. {to be justified in the sight of God one needs to be born again of water and of the Spirit.}
31 What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?

If you take notice, those who he did foreknow were predestinated to be conformed to the image of his son. Another words jointly formed or similar to by partaking of the Lord’s sufferings, being born again of God, and entering into the Body of Christ.

Romans 6:8
8 Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him:

4 According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love:
5 Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children {the born again process} by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will,

Let me briefly mention that sonship was lost when Adam and Eve sinned in the Garden of Eden. There were not any more sons of God until the New Covenant (Testament) of God was in force (the born again process of God) and we were once again able to become the sons of God (Spiritual regeneration). The Sons of God you see throughout the Old Testament after the fall of Adam and Eve are referring to Angels.

14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.
15 For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. {Abba – This Syriac word, which intimates filial affection (the relation of a child to a parent) and respect, and parental tenderness,}
16 The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:
17 And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.
18 For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.
19 For the earnest expectation of the creature waiteth for the manifestation of the sons of God.

Though we were predestinated unto God by Jesus Christ unto himself before the foundation of the world, this would in no way eliminate freedom of choice.

John 3:16
16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, {the promise of his coming} as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

Though we were predestinated according to the foreknowledge of God the Lord has told us, “that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” We were also told that, the Lord is, “longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.”

The choice is ours. Do we believe in Jesus Christ? Have we become obedient unto the faith of the gospel of the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ? By repenting of our sins and being baptized in Jesus name? For the remission of our sins that were inherited from birth; where the body of sin is destroyed as we are buried with him by baptism into death? Have we received the promise of the receiving of the Holy Ghost with the evidence of speaking with other tongues as the Spirit gives the utterance? As is taught throughout scripture?

What about God hardening Pharaoh’s heart? And has not the Potter power over the clay?

Romans 9:16-24
16 So then it is not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that showeth mercy.
17 For the scripture saith unto Pharaoh, Even for this same purpose have I raised thee up, that I might show my power in thee, and that my name might be declared throughout all the earth.
18 Therefore hath he mercy on whom he will have mercy, and whom he will he hardeneth.
19 Thou wilt say then unto me, Why doth he yet find fault? For who hath resisted his will?
20 Nay but, O man, who art thou that repliest against God? Shall the thing formed say to him that formed it, Why hast thou made me thus?
21 Hath not the potter power over the clay, of the same lump to make one vessel unto honour, and another unto dishonour?
22 What if God, willing to show his wrath, and to make his power known, endured with much longsuffering the vessels of wrath fitted to destruction:
23 And that he might make known the riches of his glory on the vessels of mercy, which he had afore prepared unto glory,
24 Even us, whom he hath called, not of the Jews only, but also of the Gentiles?

How could one have a choice if God had afore prepared the vessels of mercy unto glory? Who has resisted his will?

What did we read above?

So how does this work together?

2 Timothy 2:19-21
19 Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity.
20 But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of earth; and some to honour, and some to dishonour.
21 If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master’s use, and prepared unto every good work.

If we want to be a vessel of honour, sanctified, and meet for the master’s use, we must depart from iniquity and purge ourselves from vessels of dishonour. The choice is ours!!

John 6:37
37 All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out.

For the Lord will in no wise cast out those that come to Him. The choice is ours. For the Lord is, “longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.”

And who are those that the Father gives unto Jesus that he will in no wise cast out?

Answer is: whosoever will. Freedom of choice!!

Revelation 22:17
17 And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely.

For there is no respect of persons with God.

Colossians 3:25
25 But he that doeth wrong shall receive for the wrong which he hath done: and there is no respect of persons.

Remember: God knew the end before the beginning. He knew every choice that every person would make before he ever made them, yet he chose to make us anyway. Thus he predestinated those that he foreknew to be conformed to the image of His Son. For through the blood of Jesus Christ is the redemption and reconciliation for mankind.

Isaiah 46:9-10
9 Remember the former things of old: for I am God, and there is none else; I am God, and there is none like me,
10 Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure:

John 13:19
19 Now I tell you before it come, that, when it is come to pass, ye may believe that I am he.

Let us take a deeper look at the doctrine of predestination.

Did God predestinate Adam and Eve to sin? No, he gave them a choice of whether to obey or not to obey. Man fell. Did God predestinate man to sin and die to fulfill his plan? No, God created man to have fellowship with him and obey him by freedom of choice. Was God’s will for mankind to sin and fall short of the glory of God? No, his will was for man to fellowship with him in obedience by freedom of choice.

So man was not predestinated to sin, but God in his foreknowledge knew that man would fall because he is omniscient (all knowing). So he knew the choices that each individual would make in their lifetime and ultimately where they would spend their eternity.

For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son.

Those of whom he did not foreknow were prepared for destruction. The reason he did not foreknow them (in the sense of being his children) was because they were none of his. The reason they were none of his was because God in his foreknowledge knew that they would not choose to serve him and therefore he shows mercy on whom he will and he hardenth who he will.
But what about those who never had a chance to know God like those in the far reaches of the jungle? Or those that died without anyone to share the gospel with them? How could they choose to serve him because they did not know him? Choice. The very Creation witnesses of the God of the universe.

Romans 1:20-25
20 For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:

The very creation of God speaks of his existence as the God of the universe, not as a plurality of deities but as One God. Meaning the very creation itself demands an intelligent creator. Design demands a designer. God’s eternal power and Godhead is made manifest within the very creation and the rules of which govern this creation.

21 Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.
22 Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,
23 And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things.
24 Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves:
25 Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.

So he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world…. Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children… according to the good pleasure of his will.

In God’s foreknowledge he knew who would choose him and therefore he chose those who he foreknew would choose him. He knew the end from the beginning and predestinated us around this foreknowledge of which the Almighty Supreme Sovereign God of the universe, who is omniscient, chose us by election before the foundation of the world because he knew every choice that you would make in your life. Thus he knew who were his before the foundation of the world.

Again, if one starts to ask but doesn’t that mean that God made this person this way because God is the creator and this person then had no choice? The answer is still no, because God did not predestinate mankind to sin, but rather foreknew that mankind would fall. Did God predestinate mankind to fall? The answer again is no, God made man to have fellowship with him and obey him by freedom of choice. Otherwise you are actually accusing God of deliberately designing the Angels and mankind to fall. This is not true! He allowed them to exercise freedom of choice. Understand the will of God was freedom of choice to obey him because you so chose to. Not because you were forced to. God’s will was for man to fellowship with him in obedience by freedom of choice. Just like it was his will for all the Angels to fellowship with him in obedience by freedom of choice.

This is where you begin to recognize the love that God had for his creation of man. He gave man a way to once again become the sons of God and to be reconciled unto himself by Christ Jesus our Lord, even though we were in a fallen state. “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” (Romans 5:8) He did not give this same choice to the Angels that fell. This I believe is because they knew so much more than man and yet still chose to rebel against him.

So all of mankind was predestinated around what God already foreknew.

Matthew 11:21
21 Woe unto thee, Chorazin! woe unto thee, Bethsaida! for if the mighty works, which were done in you, had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes.

God in his foreknowledge knew how people would have responded to events that did not take place. Here you see two cities that would have repented if the works that Jesus did in Chorazin and Bethsaida were done in them. What one begins to take notice of here is that people under different situations and circumstances would have chosen repentance versus not repenting. In essence they would have chose God rather than not choosing God. But those situations and circumstances did not take place. This is a great illustration of choice. These two towns, Chorazin and Bethsaida, did not repent by their own choice after seeing the mighty works of God within them, yet God in his omniscience knew that two other cities, Tyre and Sidon, would have repented under those same circumstances. But that is not what took place. What matters to us is what is, not what might have been.

God knew Pharoah’s heart. Therefore God in his foreknowledge predestinated Pharoah to be a vessel of wrath fitted for destruction because God knew what was going to take place with his children in Egypt… and this is what was… not what might have been.

To say that Pharoah had no choice of serving God is to say God predestinated sin. God did not predestinate sin but God allowed freedom of choice, of which if exercised against God is sin. God did not create Pharoah to sin, but rather Pharoah inherited sin from birth. It was Pharoah’s choice to afflict the children of Israel with the bondage of slavery. God then chose to redeem the children of Israel by the hand of Moses and Pharoah was given over to a reprobate mind and his heart was hardened. This is God showing mercy on whom he will and upon whom he will he hardenth.

Proverbs 16:4
4 The LORD hath made all things for himself: yea, even the wicked for the day of evil.

Let us take a closer look at God’s eternal purpose. God had an eternal purpose in Christ Jesus. Just as God is eternal, his purpose in Christ was also eternal.

Ephesians 3:9-11
9 And to make all men see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the world hath been hid in God, who created all things by Jesus Christ:
10 To the intent that now unto the principalities and powers in heavenly places might be known by the church the manifold wisdom of God,
11 According to the eternal purpose which he purposed in Christ Jesus our Lord:

To accomplish this purpose Jesus chose to pick Judas Iscariot to be one of his twelve Apostles to fulfill the scripture “Yea, mine own familiar friend, in whom I trusted, which did eat of my bread, hath lifted up his heel against me.” (Psalms 41:9) Judas had freedom of choice to follow after Jesus Christ but chose rather to betray him. God according to his foreknowledge knew that Judas would betray the Christ and so Jesus chose Judas to be one of the twelve Apostles.

John 6:67-71
67 Then said Jesus unto the twelve, Will ye also go away?
68 Then Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast the words of eternal life.
69 And we believe and are sure that thou art that Christ, the Son of the living God.
70 Jesus answered them, Have not I chosen you twelve, and one of you is a devil?
71 He spake of Judas Iscariot the son of Simon: for he it was that should betray him, being one of the twelve.

John 13:10-11, 18-19
10 Jesus saith to him, He that is washed needeth not save to wash his feet, but is clean every whit: and ye are clean, but not all.
11 For he knew who should betray him; therefore said he, Ye are not all clean.
18 I speak not of you all: I know whom I have chosen: but that the scripture may be fulfilled, He that eateth bread with me hath lifted up his heel against me.
19 Now I tell you before it come, that, when it is come to pass, ye may believe that I am he.

Acts 2:22-24
22 Ye men of Israel, hear these words; Jesus of Nazareth, a man approved of God among you by miracles and wonders and signs, which God did by him in the midst of you, as ye yourselves also know:
23 Him, being delivered by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God, ye have taken, and by wicked hands have crucified and slain:
24 Whom God hath raised up, having loosed the pains of death: because it was not possible that he should be holden of it.

Revelation 13:8
8 And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.

In the eternal purpose which God purposed in Christ Jesus our Lord we find that in the mind of God, Jesus the Lamb of God, was slain from the foundation of the world.

Revelation17:8
8 The beast that thou sawest was, and is not; and shall ascend out of the bottomless pit, and go into perdition: and they that dwell on the earth shall wonder, whose names were not written in the book of life from the foundation of the world, when they behold the beast that was, and is not, and yet is.

Revelation 3:5
5 He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels.

Romans 4:16-17
16 Therefore it is of faith, that it might be by grace; to the end the promise might be sure to all the seed; not to that only which is of the law, but to that also which is of the faith of Abraham; who is the father of us all,
17 (As it is written, I have made thee a father of many nations,) before him whom he believed, even God, who quickeneth the dead, and calleth those things which be not as though they were.

Christ was foreordained before the foundation of the world.

1 Peter 1:19-20
19 But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:
20 Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you,

The eternal purpose in Christ Jesus was to save his people that he foreknew from their sins!!

Psalms 51:5
5 Behold, I was shapen in iniquity, and in sin did my mother conceive me.

Every one of us were born in sin and shapen in iniquity. This is why we must be born again.

Romans 3:23
23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

Ephesians 2:3
3 Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others.

Every one of us were worthy of death…

Romans 5:6-8
6 For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly.
7 For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die.
8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

John 3:19-21
19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.
20 For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved.
21 But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.

Those who hate the Light are blinded.

2 Corinthians 4:3-4
3 But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost:
4 In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.

Is there any hope for those who are blinded by satan?

The Lord takes no pleasure in the death of the wicked.

11 Say unto them, As I live, saith the Lord GOD, I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked; but that the wicked turn from his way and live: turn ye, turn ye from your evil ways; for why will ye die, O house of Israel?

The choice is ours. Never the less…

Proverbs 16:4
4 The LORD hath made all things for himself: yea, even the wicked for the day of evil.

Though the Lord does not take pleasure in the death of the wicked, he never the less chooses to make them anyway.

Acts 13:47-48
47 For so hath the Lord commanded us, saying, I have set thee to be a light of the Gentiles, that thou shouldest be for salvation unto the ends of the earth.
48 And when the Gentiles heard this, they were glad, and glorified the word of the Lord: and as many as were ordained to eternal life believed.

“Behold a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his Name Emmanuel-which being interpreted is God with us! And she brought forth her firstborn son; and called His name “Jesus”.

Matthew 1:21-25
21 And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.
22 Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying,

Here we are told explicitly that we are to do everything in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus.

Water baptism in Jesus name is a deed!

I. Introduction

There is one God! Our God is a Spirit and he is one. In regards to that which is created the Spirit is known as our Father by title. In regards to the Son of God the Spirit of God became incarnate to redeem mankind back unto himself and he is still one and the selfsame Spirit!

This lesson is designed in a manner that will walk the Trinitarian believer through several topics concerning the Godhead while concentrating mainly upon the Son. The reason for this concentrated effort upon the Son is because this is where the mystery of the Godhead lies.

The Catholic Encyclopedia states “For nowhere in the Old Testament do we find any clear indication of a Third Person. Mention is often made of the Spirit of the Lord, but there is nothing to show that the Spirit was viewed as distinct from Jahweh Himself. II. The Image of God

In the beginning “God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness” (Genesis 1:26a). What is God’s image according to the scriptures? There are four scriptures that identifies this for us.

“In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.” (2 Corinthians 4:4)

“In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins: Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature:” (Colossians 1:14-15)

“And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him:” (Colossians 3:10)

“Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high;” (Hebrews 1:3)

So we learn that the image of God is the body of the man Jesus Christ. He is the expressed visible image of the invisible God. This also reveals to us that when God was creating mankind he had the incarnation in mind and thus said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness”. The likeness of his own image of which was not yet brought forth but was certainly in view.

III. There is only one body of God the body of Christ

“There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling;” (Ephesians 4:4) There are not three bodies of God nor are there three persons of God. Whether we define them as spirit bodies or not there is only one body of God the body of Christ.

Many times when we think of the body of Christ we think of the body of the man Christ Jesus only and do not think about his dual nature. Jesus was fully man and fully God at the same time. As Jesus told us in John 10:30 “I and my Father are one.” “For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.” (Colossians 2:9)

We must not forget that the one Spirit of God is the Spirit of Christ. “But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.” (Romans 8:9)

Thus the one body of Christ is the one body of God. God doesn’t have three bodies because our God is one. And the scriptures teaches us that there is but one body, one Spirit, one hope, one Lord, one faith, one baptism and “One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.” (Ephesians 4:4-6)

This is the mystery of Godliness and the mystery of God, and of the Father, and of Christ. The mystery of God manifested in the flesh. The one Spirit of God incarnate in the one body of God, the body of Christ.

Many times when we think of the body of Christ, we only think of the spiritual body of Christ that the born again believer becomes a part of. The body of Christ that has many members of which makes up this one body. But we must not forget the dual nature of Christ and the mystery of godliness.

For it is by the one Spirit of God, the Spirit of Christ that one receives that gives them access into the one body of Christ of which we are many members.

“For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also is Christ. For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit. For the body is not one member, but many.” (1 Corinthians 12:12-14)

Hear the words of Jesus as he prayed in his humanity to the eternal Spirit.

“Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word; That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me. And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one: I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me.” (John 17:20-23)

In verse 21 Jesus says, “That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me.” This request that Jesus has prayed to the eternal Spirit is that all of those who believe on him through the words of his disciples, that they all may be one even as he and the Father are one. “As thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee… that they also may be one in us”.

How is the Father and Jesus one? They are one in Spirit and in body.

In verse 23 Jesus explains how we can be one in the Father as well as in himself. “I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one”. One as being members of the body of Christ by receiving the Spirit of Christ. That we may be one even as he is one. One in body and one in Spirit.

“For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones.” (Ephesians 5:30)

IV. What is the Word (Logos)

logos, log’-os; from G3004; something said (including the thought); by impl. a topic (subject of discourse), also reasoning (the mental faculty) or motive; by extens. a computation; spec. (with the art. in John) the Divine Expression (i.e. Christ)

The logos is something said (including the thought) and also the reasoning (the mental faculty) or motive of what was said.

V. Are the terms ‘Word’ and ‘Son’ interchangeable terms

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.” (John 1:1-3)

How was this Word with God? What is this Word that was with God and was God?

Some people teach that this Word was with God as a second divine person of a Triune Godhead, in which He is known as God the Son. Is this what the Apostle John was trying to relay to us? Was the Apostle John trying to relay to us a Hellenistic concept of the Word? Or was the Apostle John following after the concept of Jewish tradition?

The Catholic encyclopedia states that for the Apostle John, “the Word is for him the Word of God, and thereby he holds with Jewish tradition…. He perfects the idea and transforms it by showing that this creative Word which was from all eternity was in God and was God, took flesh and dwelt among men.” see: http://www.newadvent.org/cathen/09328a.htm

Take notice that the early Catholic church recognized, “that this creative Word which was from all eternity was in God” How was this Word with God? What is the definition of this Word?

The logos is something said (including the thought) and also the reasoning (the mental faculty) or motive of what was said. Thus the Word that was with God and was God is (the thought, plan, and mind of God.) This is how the Word was in God as the early Catholic church recognized that the Apostle John was implying.

However, the early Catholic church then drew the conclusion that this Word was the eternally begotten Son of God or what they have called God the Son. Is this what the Apostle John was trying to relay to us? That our one God was three distinct divine persons of one substance? That somehow God the Son is eternally being begotten? Which is a contradiction of words? Is the terms Word and Son interchangeable terms? The answer to these questions is no. This is not what the Apostle John was trying to relay to us.

So what was the Apostle John trying to relay to us? The nutshell answer is exactly what the Apostle John told us. “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”

We must remember that God is a Spirit. (John 4:24) The eternal Spirit of God is the Word that was with God and was God; as the thought, plan, and mind of God. Not as three divine persons that somehow make up one God. The Holy Spirit (Holy Ghost) is this eternal Spirit of God. This Word that was with God and was God is the thought, plan, and mind of God that was with God.

The eternal Spirit of God, or the Father, beget His only son to redeem mankind from their fallen state of sin. This action of conception took place through the Word; the thought, plan, and mind of God, by His eternal Spirit which is the Holy Ghost. (Luke 1:30-35)

So the Word and the Son are not interchangeable terms. The Word is eternal as the thought, plan, and mind of God. The eternal Spirit of God has an eternal purpose in Christ. (Ephesians 3:11)

This plan of God was set forth as creation by the eternal spirit of God, which is the Word of God, when God spoke the world into existence. This same Word, which is the thought, plan, and mind of God, was made flesh some 4,000 years later when the eternal Spirit of God hovered over the virgin Mary and she conceived child of the Holy Ghost.

This conception was when the son of God was begotten as the scripture says, “Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee.” (Psalms 2:7b) Thus the Word is eternal, but the son of God was begotten upon the conception of the virgin Mary by the eternal Spirit of God through the Word of God. The thought, plan, and mind of God in action.

In Hebrews 1:5-10 we see prophecies from the Psalms fulfilled in Jesus Christ. But focusing on verse 5 it reads, “For unto which of the angels said he at any time, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee? And again, I will be to him a Father, and he shall be to me a Son?”

Notice carefully the future tense “I will be” and “he shall be” in this scripture verse. It reads, “I will be to him a Father, and he shall be to me a Son?” This lets us know again that there was not an eternal sonship, but rather the Son was begotten at a certain point in time, which was at the conception of the virgin Mary.

VI. Cosmogony

By this term is understood an account of how the universe (cosmos) came into being (gonia — gegona = I have become). It differs from cosmology, or the science of the universe, in this: that the latter aims at understanding the actual composition and governing laws of the universe as it now exists; while the former answers the question as to how it first came to be.

The Catholic Encylopedia online in the article entitled “The Blessed Trinity” (see weblink: http://www.newadvent.org/cathen/15047a.htm) we read:

The Socinian writers of the seventeenth century (e.g. Sand, “Nucleus historiae ecclesiastic”, Amsterdam, 1668) asserted that the language of the early Fathers in many passages of their works shows that they agreed not with Athanasius, but with Arius. Petavius, who was at that period engaged on his great theological work, was convinced by their arguments, and allowed that at least some of these Fathers had fallen into grave errors.

It is further to be remembered that accurate terminology in regard to the relations between the Three Persons was the fruit of the controversies which sprang up in the fourth century. The writers of an earlier period were not concerned with Arianism, and employed expressions which in the light of subsequent errors are seen to be not merely inaccurate, but dangerous.

It should further be remembered that throughout this period theologians, when treating of the relation of the Divine Persons to each other, invariably regard them in connection with the cosmogony. Notice carefully here that the Catholic Church is stating that the writings of the Church Fathers prior to the Trinitarian Doctrine which received final approbation in the fourth century DID NOT AGREE with the doctrine of which received this final approbation. Not only did the prior writings of the Church Fathers not agree with the Trinitarian Doctrine that received final approbation in the fourth century, but now we see several profound statements being made. 1) “It should further be remembered that throughout this period theologians, when treating of the relation of the Divine Persons to each other, invariably regard them in connection with the cosmogony.” 2) “Only later, in the Nicene epoch, did they learn to prescind from the question of creation and deal with the threefold Personality exclusively from the point of view of the Divine life of the Godhead.” 3) “When that stage was reached expressions such as these became impossible.”

1) Cosmogony, being the study of the origin and development of the universe, was a crucial part of understanding what the Apostle John meant when he spoke to us in John 1:1-3 “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.”

Remember that the Word (Logos) is something said (including the thought) and also the reasoning (the mental faculty) or motive of what was said. This is why cosmogony was such an important part of understanding what the Apostle John meant in regards to the Word.

2) Notice again that it was “Only later, in the Nicene epoch, did they learn to prescind from the question of creation and deal with the threefold Personality exclusively from the point of view of the Divine life of the Godhead.” Why did they learn to prescind from this question? They answer that for us in the next sentence.

3) “When that stage was reached expressions such as these became impossible.” They became impossible because you were either banished, excommunicated, or possibly put to death for teaching heresy!

VII. How did the Son create the worlds then?

“For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.” (Colossian 1:16-17)

“And unto the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write; These things saith the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God;” (Revelation 3:14)

Here we read an interesting verse. This verse makes the statement, “These things saith… the beginning of the creation of God” How was Jesus the beginning of the creation of God?

Notice the keywords ‘the beginning.’ This again goes back to understanding what the Word is and what is meant by the Word.

The answer is found in many scripture passages. Let me give a summary of these verses with what we have learned up to this point.

Who is the Son of God? The Word made flesh (John 1:14), not beforehand (Psalms 2:7b, Hebrews 1:5). So God made the worlds by his Son as the Word that would become flesh, not as a second individual in the Godhead, but rather as the Word that was God. (John 1:1) God calls things that be not as though they were (Romans 4:17) even as he speaks of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world. (Revelation 13:8) God created all things by Jesus Christ (Ephesians 3:9) as the Word of God (John 1:1-3) that would be made flesh (John 1:14) when the fulness of the time was come (Galatians 4:4).

The Word made flesh would reveal to us the name of God as Jesus. I and my Father are one. (John 10:30) By inheritance have I obtained a more excellent name than the angels. (Hebrews 1:4) I am come in my Father’s name, and ye receive me not. (John 5:43a) But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things… (John 14:26a) And I have declared unto them thy name. (John 17:26a) For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, Of whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named. (Ephesians 3:14-15)

Jesus Christ is the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Ghost.

VIII. Conversation in the Godhead?

The Lord said unto my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool. (Psalms 110:1)

There are not any conversations in the Godhead recorded in the Bible but rather prophecy recorded that was spoken by the Prophet. Just like the case with the Lord speaking to Cyrus.

“Thus saith the Lord to his anointed, to Cyrus, whose right hand I have holden, to subdue nations before him; and I will loose the loins of kings, to open before him the two leaved gates; and the gates shall not be shut;” (Isaiah 45:1)

Was this a literal conversation between God and Cyrus? The answer is no. The Lord spoke it through the Prophet Isaiah two hundred years before Cyrus was born and it was recorded so that it might be an undeniable evidence of the exactness of God’s foreknowledge. It was recorded and fulfilled in it’s proper time just like the prophecies concerning the Messiah. They were not conversations taking place in the Godhead between a God the Son and a God the Father, but rather they were prophecies recorded afore time so that it might be an undeniable evidence of the exactness of God’s foreknowledge.

If we try to force Psalms 110:1 to be a conversation between a God the Father and a God the Son, then we must also force the words spoken in prophecy from the Prophet Isaiah in regards to Cyrus to also be a conversation that took place between God and Cyrus which would then force a pre-existent birth of Cyrus. Pre-existent birth is not a Biblical doctrine.

This is exactly what is taking place with claiming recorded prophecy of the Messiah to come was conversations taking place with a God the Father and a God the Son which then forces a pre- existence of Christ as a second individual in the Godhead. Just like pre-existent birth is not a Biblical doctrine, the Trinity is also not a Biblical doctrine.

IX. Who is Jesus Christ

For this understanding we will let the Word of God declare to us who the Son of man Jesus Christ is.

“When Jesus came into the coasts of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, saying, Whom do men say that I the Son of man am? And they said, Some say that thou art John the Baptist: some, Elias; and others, Jeremias, or one of the prophets. He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am? And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.” (Matthew 16:13-16)

Who is Jesus Christ?
Jesus Christ is the Son of the living God.

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.” (John 1:1,14)

Who is Jesus Christ?
Jesus Christ is the Word of God.

“And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you. I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.” (John 14:16-18)

Who is Jesus Christ?
Jesus Christ is the Comforter.

“But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me: And ye also shall bear witness, because ye have been with me from the beginning.” (John 15:26-27)

Who is Jesus Christ?
Jesus Christ is the Spirit of Truth.

“I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.” (Galatians 2:20)

Who is Jesus Christ?
Jesus Christ is the indwelling Spirit of God.

“Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.” (Matthew 1:23)

Who is Jesus Christ?
Jesus Christ is God with us.

“Saying, I am Alpha and Omega, the first and the last:” (Revelation 1:11a)

Who is Jesus Christ?
Jesus Christ is the Alpha and the Omega.

“I am he that liveth, and was dead;” (Revelation 1:18a)

Who is Jesus Christ?
Jesus Christ is He that liveth and was dead.

“For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.” (Colossians 2:9)

Who is Jesus Christ?
Jesus Christ is the fulness of the Godhead bodily.

“Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature:” (Colossians 1:15)

Who is Jesus Christ?
Jesus Christ is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature

The prophet Isaiah prophesied of the birth of Christ.

“For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.” (Isaiah 9:6)

Who is Jesus Christ?
Jesus Christ is Wonderful, Counsellor, The Mighty God, The Everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.

Let us sum up who Jesus Christ really is according to the Bible.

Jesus Christ is the Indwelling Spirit of God (the Holy Ghost)
Jesus Christ is Emmanuel, God with us

Jesus Christ is the fullness of the Godhead bodily

X. The Son would be known as the Everlasting Father?

“Philip saith unto him, Lord, shew us the Father, and it sufficeth us. Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Shew us the Father? Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works.” (John 14:8-10)

Remember how the Father and Jesus are one? They are one in Spirit and in body. The flesh of Jesus is the body of God and the Spirit of Jesus is the Father. Therefore the Son would be known as the Mighty God as well as the Everlasting Father.

“I will raise them up a Prophet from among their brethren, like unto thee, and will put my words in his mouth; and he shall speak unto them all that I shall command him. And it shall come to pass, that whosoever will not hearken unto my words which he shall speak in my name, I will require it of him.” (Deuteronomy 18:18-19)

XI. The Mystery of the Godhead

“And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.” (1 Timothy 3:16)

The mystery of godliness is God was manifest in the flesh. Jesus was to be called the mighty God and the everlasting Father. And they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us. This is the mystery of God manifest in the flesh. It was the Everlasting Father that was manifest in the flesh as the Son of God.

This is the mystery of God, and of the Father, and of Christ. “That their hearts might be comforted, being knit together in love, and unto all riches of the full assurance of understanding, to the acknowledgement of the mystery of God, and of the Father, and of Christ; In whom are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.” (Colossians 2:2-3)

It is important to recognize the wording of this mystery. It is the mystery of God, and of the Father, and of Christ. This is the mystery of God manifest in the flesh. This mystery is God the Father, who is a Spirit, manifested himself in the flesh as the Son of God to redeem mankind back unto himself.

“To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation.” (2 Corinthians 5:19)

Thus God manifested himself in various roles or offices to us. However, this is not limited to three offices as many people immediately assume. God is a Spirit. This is not a title. This is God. I am human. That is not my title. Here are some of the roles or offices that God has manifested himself to us as: Prophet (Acts 3:20-24), Apostle (Hebrews 3:1), Teacher (See Gospels) Son of God (Isaiah 9:6), Father (Isaiah 9:6, Malachi 2:10), Prince (Isaiah 9:6), Lamb (John 1:29), King (John 18:37), Savior (Matthew 1:21), Redeemer (Titus 2:13-14), Near-kinsmen (Matthew 1:17, Luke 3:23-38), and Mediator. (Hebrews 12:24)

Our God is a Spirit and he is one. In regards to that which is created the Spirit is known as our Father by title. In regards to the Son of God the Spirit of God became incarnate to redeem mankind back unto himself and he is still one and the selfsame Spirit!

XII. The Dual nature of Christ

“He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.” (1 John 3:8)

“And not as it was by one that sinned, so is the gift: for the judgment was by one to condemnation, but the free gift is of many offences unto justification. For if by one man’s offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.)” (Romans 5:16)

We must not forget that Jesus had a dual nature. He was both fully man and fully God at the same time. As to the human nature of Christ he hungered, thirsted, was fatigued, suffered pain and death. Christ “was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.” (Hebrews 4:15b) As to the Deity of Christ he was omnipotent (all powerful), omniscient (all knowing), and omnipresent (everywhere present).

We must ask ourselves when we read the words that Jesus spoke as to whether it was the humanity in him speaking or the divine. For example: when Jesus prayed He prayed in His humanity to the Eternal Spirit.

“Who in the days of his flesh, when he had offered up prayers and supplications with strong crying and tears unto him that was able to save him from death, and was heard in that he feared; Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered; And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him;” (Hebrews 5:7-9)

What many Trinitarian believers do not realize is this. God the Son was not praying to God the Father. If God the Son had to pray then by definition He would not be God. For as God He would not need help from anyone or anything. Thus even if you were a Trinitarian in belief, you must realize that Jesus was praying in his humanity to the eternal Spirit of God, which is God the Father.

When Jesus said the Father was greater than He, this was pertaining to humanity. Otherwise you would be forced to believe in both a God the Son and God the Father in which case you would have subordinated the Son to the Father in which case Trinitarians do not teach.

When Jesus said that no man knows the day nor the hour of the coming of the Son of man no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only, this was according to the flesh. As to the Divinity of the Father dwelling inside of Him, He knew the day and the hour.

Thus the mystery is revealed to us that Jesus Christ had a dual nature. He was the Almighty God and He was a man at the same time.

XIII. Is this not the teaching of Patripassian

Patripassianism. Name given to modalism, modalistic monarchianism, or Sabellianism. It came from Latin words meaning “the Father suffered.” Some historians use it to describe modalism because Tertullian accused the modalists, of believing that the Father suffered and died. However, the modalists apparently denied Tertullian’s accusation. The word therefore represents a misinterpretation of modalism by trinitarians, for modalism did not teach that the Father is the Son, but that the Father is in the Son. The flesh was not the Father, but the Father was in
the flesh. Thus, modalism did not teach that the Father physically suffered or died.

The modalists are sometimes called Patripassians, from Latin words meaning “the Father suffered.” This label stems from Tertullian’s attempt to ridicule modalism as follows: If Jesus is the Father incarnate, then the Father was crucified and the Father died. How ridiculous
to imagine that the Father could die!

What made his argument so powerful in his day was an important tenet of Greek philosophy, particularly emphasized in Neo-Platonism: God is impassible, or incapable of emotional feeling and suffering. God is so lofty that He cannot fully interact with this world; thus the God who interacts with us cannot be the supreme God.

The most common objection made to modalistic monarchianism was that it was Patripassian; that is, it implied that the Father suffered and died. Tertullian was the first to so accuse the modalists. He interpreted modalism to mean that the Father is the same as the Son. But this would mean that the Father died, a clear impossibility. In this way, Tertullian sought to ridicule
and refute modalism.

Later historians, taking Tertullian’s argument as truth, have labelled the modalist doctrine as Patripassianism. However, Praxeas explained that while Jesus was the Father incarnate, Jesus died only as to His humanity, as the Son. Sabellius evidently answered the charge of Patripassianism in a similar way.

The whole issue can easily be resolved by realizing that modalism did not teach, as Tertullian assumed, that the Father is the Son, but rather that the Father is in the Son. As Commodian said, “The Father went into the Son, one God everywhere.” Similarly, Sabellius explained that the Logos was not the Son but was clothed by the Son. Other modalists in response to the charge explained that the Son suffered, while the Father sympathized or “suffered with.” By this they meant the Son, the man Jesus, suffered and died. The Father, the Spirit of God within Jesus,
could not have suffered or died in any physical sense but yet He must have been affected by or have participated in the suffering of the flesh. Accordingly, Zephyrinus said, “I know only one God, Christ Jesus, and apart from Him no other who was born or could suffer. . . . It was not the Father who died but the Son.”

From these statements, it seems clear that the modalists held that the Father was not flesh but was clothed or manifested in the flesh. The flesh died but the eternal Spirit did not. Therefore, Patripassianism is a misleading and inaccurate term to use for modalistic monarchianism. — Dr. David K. Bernard

XIV. Why do the Apostles use Father and Son in there salutations?

The first thing to take notice of is that there is no scripture in the Bible using the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost as three distinct individuals. Many people claim the scripture “The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Ghost, be with you all. Amen” (2 Corinthians 13:14), as a Trinitarian text.

This scripture is speaking of our fellowship with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ. It is through the grace and love of God, who robed himself in flesh as Christ, that we receive the atonement. And through the baptism of the Holy Ghost we have our communion with God. “For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body” (1 Corinthians 12:13) the body of Christ.

Take a closer look at what the Apostle John writes “That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ.” (1 John 1:3 ) Why did the Apostle John leave out the Holy Ghost? And why do the other salutations continuously leave out the Holy Ghost?

The answer is because our God is not a trinity of persons. Our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ. This is the mystery of God manifest in the flesh. We become one with God in body and Spirit when we are born again of water and of the Spirit. (John 3:5) When we receive the baptism of the Spirit we are baptized into the body of Christ. “For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body” (1 Corinthians 12:13).

XV. Summary

The Lord knowing his eternal purpose in Christ brought forth this plan through his Word of whom he is and when he created man he created him in the image of Jesus Christ the last Adam. Thus God in the counsel of his own will said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness” as he was thinking of the Christ that was to be brought forth when the fulness of the time was come of whom man would be made in the image of.

Thus the manifold wisdom of God was brought forth that the Almighty God would take upon himself the seed of Abraham upon the conception of the virgin Mary to redeem mankind back unto himself and upon his death as the scriptures says in Ephesians 2:15-16 “Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments contained in ordinances; for to make in himself of twain one new man, so making peace; And that he might reconcile both unto God in one body by the cross, having slain the enmity thereby”. And in so doing destroyed him that had the power of death, that is, the devil. And upon his resurrection took back the keys of hell and of death.

Thus the mystery of God, and of the Father, and of Christ was fulfilled which eternal purpose was in the Word of God as the eternal purpose he purposed in Christ to redeem mankind back unto himself when the fulness of the time was come which allowed restoration of sonship to his chosen vessels which he had afore prepared unto glory, Even us, whom he hath called, not of the Jews only, but also of the Gentiles.

And so the eternal Word of God, which is the thought, plan, and mind of God will continue to be brought forth as we await the catching away of the saints, the coming of the great day of God Almighty wherein his Word will ride in victoriously conquering those who opposed him, and then he will rule and reign for 1000 years upon the Earth. Which Word of God will eternally unfold as there is no end as the scriptures has said in Ephesians 3:21 “Unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen.”

We all know that it requires “faith” to receive the Holy Ghost.

Hebrews 11:1
1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

Hebrews 11:6
6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

We all know…but do you know? Do you know that it takes faith to keep the Holy Ghost?
Beware lest there be found in any of you an evil heart of unbelief in departing from God.

Hebrews 3:12
12 Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God.

Galatians 3:1
1 O foolish Galatians, who hath bewitched you, that ye should not obey the truth, before whose eyes Jesus Christ hath been evidently set forth, crucified among you?

The definition of bewitched—is to deceive you; to put you under a spell.
In Galatians verse two it reads;

2 This only would I learn of you, Received ye the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith?

Galatians 3:3-14
3 Are ye so foolish? having begun in the Spirit, are ye now made perfect by the flesh?
4 Have ye suffered so many things in vain? if it be yet in vain.
5 He therefore that ministereth to you the Spirit, and worketh miracles among you, doeth he it by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith?
Those who believe are justified
6 Even as Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness.
7 Know ye therefore that they which are of faith, the same are the children of Abraham.
8 And the scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the heathen through faith, preached before the gospel unto Abraham, saying, In thee shall all nations be blessed.
9 So then they which be of faith are blessed with faithful Abraham.
10 For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse: for it is written, Cursed is every one that continueth not in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them.

How can we go back; turn back to the world; that is to turn back to the things of the flesh and still serve God?

7 Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.
8 For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting.
9 And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.
10 As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith.

Saints be not deceived—God is not mocked!!!!

Hebrews 4:1-2
1 Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of entering into his rest, any of you should seem to come short of it.
2 For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it.

Let us forever fear !!!! Lest we fall short and loose the Promise! Loose the Promise of the Holy Ghost through lack of faith!

13 Remember the word which Moses the servant of the LORD commanded you, saying, The LORD your God hath given you rest, and hath given you this land.
14 Your wives, your little ones, and your cattle, shall remain in the land which Moses gave you on this side Jordan; but ye shall pass before your brethren armed, all the mighty men of valour, and help them;

The blessing that God would give to the Children of Israel if they would have obeyed him!

Deuteronomy 7:11-15
11 Thou shalt therefore keep the commandments, and the statutes, and the judgments, which I command thee this day, to do them.
12 Wherefore it shall come to pass, if ye hearken to these judgments, and keep, and do them, that the LORD thy God shall keep unto thee the covenant and the mercy which he sware unto thy fathers:
13 And he will love thee, and bless thee, and multiply thee: he will also bless the fruit of thy womb, and the fruit of thy land, thy corn, and thy wine, and thine oil, the increase of thy kine, and the flocks of thy sheep, in the land which he sware unto thy fathers to give thee.
14 Thou shalt be blessed above all people: there shall not be male or female barren among you, or among your cattle.
15 And the LORD will take away from thee all sickness, and will put none of the evil diseases of Egypt, which thou knowest, upon thee; but will lay them upon all them that hate thee.

The children of Israel did not obey God and this is why Israel never fully gained the promise land!

Judges 2:1-4, 20-23
1 And an angel of the LORD came up from Gilgal to Bochim, and said, I made you to go up out of Egypt, and have brought you unto the land which I sware unto your fathers; and I said, I will never break my covenant with you.
2 And ye shall make no league with the inhabitants of this land; ye shall throw down their altars: but ye have not obeyed my voice: why have ye done this?
3 Wherefore I also said, I will not drive them out from before you; but they shall be as thorns in your sides, and their gods shall be a snare unto you.
4 And it came to pass, when the angel of the LORD spake these words unto all the children of Israel, that the people lifted up their voice, and wept.
20 And the anger of the Lord was hot against Israel; and he said, Because that this people hath transgressed my covenant which I commanded their fathers, and have not hearkened unto my voice;
21 I also will not henceforth drive out any from before them of the nations which Joshua left when he died:
22 That through them I may prove Israel, whether they will keep the way of the Lord to walk therein, as their fathers did keep it, or not.
23 Therefore the Lord left those nations, without driving them out hastily; neither delivered he them into the hand of Joshua.

Judges 3:1-5
1 Now these are the nations which the LORD left, to prove Israel by them, even as many of Israel as had not known all the wars of Canaan;
2 Only that the generations of the children of Israel might know, to teach them war, at the least such as before knew nothing thereof;
3 Namely, five lords of the Philistines, and all the Canaanites, and the Sidonians, and the Hivites that dwelt in mount Lebanon, from mount Baalhermon unto the entering in of Hamath.
4 And they were to prove Israel by them, to know whether they would hearken unto the commandments of the LORD, which he commanded their fathers by the hand of Moses.
5 And the children of Israel dwelt among the Canaanites, Hittites, and Amorites, and Perizzites, and Hivites, and Jebusites:

The Promise land covenant given to Abraham and his seed will still be fulfilled!

Galatians 3:16
16 Now to Abraham and his seed were the promises made. He saith not, And to seeds, as of many; but as of one, And to thy seed, which is Christ.

Romans 9:7-8
7 Neither, because they are the seed of Abraham, are they all children: but, In Isaac shall thy seed be called.
8 That is, They which are the children of the flesh, these are not the children of God: but the children of the promise are counted for the seed.

Jesus Christ is the seed and those who are born again become heirs of God and joint-heirs with Christ to the covenant promise given to Abraham and his seed!

Romans 8:16-17
16 The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:
17 And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.

Jesus Christ was not a teacher of the various forms of socialism and wealth redistribution either!

Matthew 25:28-30
28 Take therefore the talent from him, and give it unto him which hath ten talents.
29 For unto every one that hath shall be given, and he shall have abundance: but from him that hath not shall be taken away even that which he hath.
30 And cast ye the unprofitable servant into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

The Apostle Paul by the inspiration of God also spoke the same!

2 Thessalonians 3:10-12
10 For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, that if any would not work, neither should he eat.
11 For we hear that there are some which walk among you disorderly, working not at all, but are busybodies.
12 Now them that are such we command and exhort by our Lord Jesus Christ, that with quietness they work, and eat their own bread.

God will set up a world government that Jesus Christ will rule over with the saints of God!

Psalms 2:1-9
1 Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing?
2 The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD, and against his anointed, saying,
3 Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us.
4 He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision.
5 Then shall he speak unto them in his wrath, and vex them in his sore displeasure.
6 Yet have I set my king upon my holy hill of Zion.
7 I will declare the decree: the LORD hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee.
8 Ask of me, and I shall give thee the heathen for thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession.
9 Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron; thou shalt dash them in pieces like a potter’s vessel.

Revelation 1:5-6
5 And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood,
6 And hath made us kings and priests unto God and his Father; to him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.

Revelation 2:26-27
26 And he that overcometh, and keepeth my works unto the end, to him will I give power over the nations:
27 And he shall rule them with a rod of iron; as the vessels of a potter shall they be broken to shivers: even as I received of my Father.

Revelation 5:9-10
9 And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation;
10 And hast made us unto our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth.

The nations of the Earth will bring their glory and honor into the new city Jerusalem!

Revelation 21:23-27
23 And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb is the light thereof.
24 And the nations of them which are saved shall walk in the light of it: and the kings of the earth do bring their glory and honour into it.
25 And the gates of it shall not be shut at all by day: for there shall be no night there.
26 And they shall bring the glory and honour of the nations into it.
27 And there shall in no wise enter into it any thing that defileth, neither whatsoever worketh abomination, or maketh a lie: but they which are written in the Lamb’s book of life.

After the thousand year reign of Christ God will destroy all the wicked that remain on Earth and all the wicked that are in hell will be judged for their works then cast into the lake of fire!

Revelation 20:7-15
7 And when the thousand years are expired, Satan shall be loosed out of his prison,
8 And shall go out to deceive the nations which are in the four quarters of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them together to battle: the number of whom is as the sand of the sea.
9 And they went up on the breadth of the earth, and compassed the camp of the saints about, and the beloved city: and fire came down from God out of heaven, and devoured them.
10 And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever.
11 And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them.
12 And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.
13 And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works.
14 And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.
15 And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.

The God-Man

Adam and Eve sinned in the garden of Eden as we all know. God had told them not to eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and of evil. However, Eve was tempted by Satan and she did eat and also gave to her husband to eat and he did eat.

For this cause the Law of Sin and Death passed upon all mankind. The Law of Sin and Death is the soul that sins it shall surely die. It was for this reason that God had an eternal purpose in Christ. To redeem mankind from their fallen state. This plan of God was to send Himself as the Son of God to take away the sins of the world and to redeem mankind back unto Himself and thus we could once again become the sons of God by adoption.

01 Jesus Teaching

Genesis 3:14-15
14 And the LORD God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life:
15 And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.

The woman’s seed would be Christ and the serpent’s seed are the children of the devil. This prophecy is the first prophecy given by God of the coming Messiah. This seed would be the seed of Abraham and also the seed of David according to the flesh.

Remember we are speaking of the dual nature of Christ. The dual nature of Christ being that He was 100% man and 100% God at the same time. Two natures, the divine and the human, physically united in the one person of Jesus Christ.

1 Timothy 3:16
16 And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.

Who was manifested in the flesh? Let’s see what the scriptures teach us.

Isaiah 9:6
6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.

So who was manifested in the flesh according to the scriptures? The everlasting Father was manifested in the flesh, not a non-existent second individual in the godhead known as God the Son.

This is important to understand. Our God is one. Not one God made up of three individuals. Our one God manifested Himself in the body of Christ to redeem mankind unto Himself. Thus the dual nature of Christ. 100% God and 100% man at the same time.

The mystery of godliness is understanding who the Son of God is. If one can understand who the Son of God is, then they will also understand who God is. For the Son of God is the man Christ Jesus of whom the everlasting Father indwelt.

Colossians 2:8-10
8 Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.
9 For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.
10 And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power:

All the fulness of the Godhead dwelt inside of the body of the man Christ Jesus. Again, 100% man and 100% God at the same time. Thus Jesus had a dual nature. He was the God-Man.

Matthew 1:22-23
22 Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying,
23 Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.

Who was manifested in the flesh according to the scriptures? The everlasting Father was. Thus Emmanuel, God with us.

John 14:10-11
10 Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works.
11 Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very works’ sake.

We must remember that Jesus was both man and God at the same time. Therefore Jesus speaking as man said, “I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works.“

If Jesus only said I am the Father, it would take away the fact that He was also a man. Therefore He said, “ I am in the Father, and the Father in me“. Notice that Jesus said, “the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works.“

So who was manifested in the flesh? The everlasting Father was. Not a second individual in the godhead known as God the Son as the Trinitarians teach.

John 14:9
9 Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Show us the Father?

John 10:30
30 I and my Father are one.

For Jesus is the expressed visible image of the invisible God. Jesus was both God and man at the same time.

So what about when Jesus was on the mount of Transfiguration?

Matthew 17:4-7
4 Then answered Peter, and said unto Jesus, Lord, it is good for us to be here: if thou wilt, let us make here three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias.
5 While he yet spake, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them: and behold a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him.
6 And when the disciples heard it, they fell on their face, and were sore afraid.
7 And Jesus came and touched them, and said, Arise, and be not afraid.

This is important to understand. Just because God the Father was in the body of Jesus Christ did not take away the fact that God is everywhere present, all knowing, and all powerful. Also, not forgetting that Jesus was both man and God at the same time. Thus the Eternal Spirit of God, speaking to the disciples, was making known to them that this was the very Christ, the Son of the Living God.

What about when Jesus was praying in the garden of Gethsemane? Was He praying to Himself?

This question forgets that Jesus was both man and God at the same time. Jesus had two natures. The scriptures tell us that Jesus prayed in the days of His flesh.

Hebrews 5:7-9
7 Who in the days of his flesh, when he had offered up prayers and supplications with strong crying and tears unto him that was able to save him from death, and was heard in that he feared;
8 Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered;
9 And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him;

With that being said, you must also realize that the scriptures teach the everlasting Father was manifested in the Son. And that Jesus said, “I and my Father are one.” Thus Jesus was both man and God at the same time. Not as two distinct individuals in the godhead, but as the everlasting Father indwelling the man Christ Jesus. Thus the fulness of the godhead was in the body of Jesus.

Jesus Christ was both the Son of man and the Son of God. God the Father was robed in flesh to redeem the world unto Himself.

2 Corinthians 5:19
19 To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation.

Remember, God had an eternal purpose in Christ to redeem mankind from their fallen state of sin. (See Eph 3:11)

1 John 3:8
8 He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.

Romans 5:16-17
16 And not as it was by one that sinned, so is the gift: for the judgment was by one to condemnation, but the free gift is of many offences unto justification.
17 For if by one man’s offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.)

We must not forget that Jesus had a dual nature. He was both man and God at the same time.

As to the human nature of Christ he hungered, thirsted, was fatigued, suffered pain and death. Christ “was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.” (Heb 4:15b) As to the Deity of Christ he was omnipotent, omniscient, and omnipresent.

As concerning the title of Son we must remember that when it is used, it always refers to the incarnation. Remember the scriptures said in Psalms 2:7b Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee.

When was the son of God begotten? According to scriptures it was at the conception of the virgin Mary.

Luke 1:35
35 And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.

The birth of the virgin Mary fulfills this scripture, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee.

In Hebrews 1:5-10 we see prophecies from the Psalms fulfilled in Jesus Christ. But focusing on verse 5 it reads,

Hebrews 1:5
5 For unto which of the angels said he at any time, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee? And again, I will be to him a Father, and he shall be to me a Son?

Notice carefully the future tense “I will be” and “he shall be” in this scripture verse. It reads, “I will be to him a Father, and he shall be to me a Son?” This lets us know again that this was not an eternal sonship, but rather the Son was begotten at a certain point in time, which was at the conception of the virgin Mary.

So when we read the words that Jesus spoke in the gospels, we must ask ourselves as to whether it was the humanity in him speaking or the divine. For example: when Jesus prayed He prayed in His humanity to the Eternal Spirit. When Jesus said the Father was greater than He, this was pertaining to humanity. When Jesus said that no man knows the day nor the hour of the coming of the Son of man no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only, this was according to the flesh. As to the Divinity of the Father dwelling inside of Him, He knew the day and the hour.

When we see prophecies in the Word of God concerning the coming of the Messiah, we must always take into account the dual nature of Christ. For Jesus was both God and man at the same time. For example.

Hebrews 1:8-9
8 But unto the Son he saith, Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: a sceptre of righteousness is the sceptre of thy kingdom.
9 Thou hast loved righteousness, and hated iniquity; therefore God, even thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows.

In verse 8 we see the Son referred to as God and in verse 9 we see the Son referred to as man. So what we see again, is what we already know. That God was in Christ reconciling the world unto Himself. We see that God is 100% man and 100% God at the same time.

We can see clearly from verse 5 that God said, “I will be to him a Father, and he shall be to me a Son?” Clearly a future statement concerning the Son being begotten. These prophecies in the first chapter of Hebrews are prophecies from the Psalms being fulfilled in Christ, who was both God and man at the same time.

So this was not a conversation between two people in the godhead, but rather the fulfillment of a prophecy spoken in the Psalms concerning how God made plans for the future through Christ.

Remember according to Romans 4:17 God “calleth those things which be not as though they were.“

A perfect example of this is found in Revelation 13:8 concerning “the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.“

How was the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world when the Lamb was not begotten until roughly 4000 years after creation? The answer is God “calleth those things which be not as though they were.”

How did the Son who was not begotten until the conception of the virgin Mary create the worlds? The answer is through the Word of God which is the thought, plan, and mind of God. For God “calleth those things which be not as though they were.” Thus the Son who was not yet begotten, can create the worlds as the Word of God, which is the thought, plan and mind of God. This Word of God is the eternal Spirit of God or the Holy Spirit. For God is a Spirit and our God is one. Not one God made up of three individuals, but One God.

Our one God as the everlasting Father manifested Himself in the flesh as the Son of God and thus you have the God-Man. 100% God and 100% man at the same time. Thus you have Emmanuel. God with us.

Thus the mystery is revealed to us that Jesus Christ had a dual nature. He was the Almighty God and He was a man at the same time.

Colossians 2:1-3
2:1 For I would that ye knew what great conflict I have for you, and for them at Laodicea, and for as many as have not seen my face in the flesh;
2 That their hearts might be comforted, being knit together in love, and unto all riches of the full assurance of understanding, to the acknowledgment of the mystery of God, and of the Father, and of Christ;
3 In whom are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.
