“And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit. Howbeit that was not first which is spiritual, but that which is natural; and afterward that which is spiritual. The first man is of the earth, earthy: the second man is the Lord from heaven.” (1 Cor 15:45-47)
Did you know the last Adam, Jesus Christ, was the image the first Adam was made in and that this is the “us” that is referred to in Genesis 1:26a saying, “And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness”? God works all things after the counsel of his own will. Thus the “us” of Genesis of whom God was speaking was his own self. But in the mind of God or the Word of God he was speaking of the image and likeness of his own self that man would be made in the image of. “God is a Spirit” (Jn 4:24a) and the image of which God was referring was the image of the man Christ Jesus.
“In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins: Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature:” (Col 1:14-15) “In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.” (2 Cor 4:4) “Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high:” (Heb 1:3) “Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over them that had not sinned after the similitude of Adam’s transgression, who is the figure of him that was to come.” (Rm 5:14)
