But of the TIMES and the SEASONS, brethren, ye have no need that I write unto you. For YOURSELVES KNOW perfectly that the DAY of the Lord so cometh as a THIEF in the night. For when they shall say, PEACE and SAFETY; then sudden DESTRUCTION cometh upon them, as TRAVAIL upon a WOMAN with CHILD; and they shall NOT ESCAPE. (1 Thes 5:1-3)
Did you know that the Apostle Paul is referring back to the Old Testament prophecy from Isaiah? However, he adds to it that the day of the Lord comes as a thief. We know from other passages of scriptures that this is referring to the catching away of the saints better known as the rapture. Look carefully at what the Prophet Isaiah says and you will see that this is what the Apostle Paul was speaking of. “Howl ye; for the day of the LORD is at hand; it shall come as a destruction from the Almighty. Therefore shall all hands be faint, and every man’s heart shall melt: And they shall be afraid: pangs and sorrows shall take hold of them; they shall be in pain as a woman that travaileth: they shall be amazed one at another; their faces shall be as flames.” (Isa 13:6-8) This also is what Luke was speaking of when he said, “And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring; Men’s hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken. And then shall they see the Son of man coming in a cloud with power and great glory.” (Lk 21:25-27)
