As we know there are many scriptures in the Bible. Many of which if applied would bring forth drastic changes in one’s behavior. Yet we as every day people find them difficult to remember at times and our focus is often distracted by something else. So why do we continue to struggle with keeping the scriptures alive in our life as we continue our daily lives as followers of Christ?

There is tremendous discipline that needs to be exercised to follow after the path of life that was laid out for us by Jesus Christ and his Apostles as well as his disciples. The good news in this is as followers of Jesus Christ we can fail to apply the scriptures and continue to fall over and over and over again and the Lord Jesus grants us grace to ask for forgiveness and we try again.

How many of us can truly say that we have select scriptures in our life that control our behavior and we are consciously working on applying them continuously in our lives so that we can perfect them? Martial artists train with great discipline and fervor. Another words great passion and pain goes into becoming the best or just even rising to newer heights. But consider with me for a moment how much different your life would be and of those around you if you just applied these five examples I now share with you.

Example 1

And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord: And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment. And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these. (Mark 12:29-31)

Example 2

But in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves. (Philippians 2:3) And as ye would that men should do to you, do ye also to them likewise. (Luke 6:31)

Example 3

Yea, if thou criest after knowledge, and liftest up thy voice for understanding; If thou seekest her as silver, and searchest for her as for hid treasures; Then shalt thou understand the fear of the LORD, and find the knowledge of God. (Prov 2:2-5)

When wisdom entereth into thine heart, and knowledge is pleasant unto thy soul; Discretion shall preserve thee, understanding shall keep thee: To deliver thee from the way of the evil man, from the man that speaketh froward things; Who leave the paths of uprightness, to walk in the ways of darkness; (Prov 2:10-13)

Example 4

Now therefore hearken unto me, O ye children: for blessed are they that keep my ways. Hear instruction, and be wise, and refuse it not. Blessed is the man that heareth me, watching daily at my gates, waiting at the posts of my doors. For whoso findeth me findeth life, and shall obtain favour of the LORD. But he that sinneth against me wrongeth his own soul: all they that hate me love death. (Prov 8:32-36)

Happy is the man that findeth wisdom, and the man that getteth understanding. For the merchandise of it is better than the merchandise of silver, and the gain thereof than fine gold. She is more precious than rubies: and all the things thou canst desire are not to be compared unto her. Length of days is in her right hand; and in her left hand riches and honour. Her ways are ways of pleasantness, and all her paths are peace. She is a tree of life to them that lay hold upon her: and happy is every one that retaineth her. (Prov 3:13-18)

Example 5

Let not mercy and truth forsake thee: bind them about thy neck; write them upon the table of thine heart: So shalt thou find favour and good understanding in the sight of God and man. Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. (Prov 3:3-6 )

The LORD knoweth the days of the upright: and their inheritance shall be for ever. They shall not be ashamed in the evil time: and in the days of famine they shall be satisfied. But the wicked shall perish, and the enemies of the LORD shall be as the fat of lambs: they shall consume; into smoke shall they consume away. The wicked borroweth, and payeth not again: but the righteous sheweth mercy, and giveth. For such as be blessed of him shall inherit the earth; and they that be cursed of him shall be cut off. The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD: and he delighteth in his way. Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down: for the LORD upholdeth him with his hand. I have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread. He is ever merciful, and lendeth; and his seed is blessed. Depart from evil, and do good; and dwell for evermore. For the LORD loveth judgment, and forsaketh not his saints; they are preserved for ever: but the seed of the wicked shall be cut off. The righteous shall inherit the land, and dwell therein for ever. The mouth of the righteous speaketh wisdom, and his tongue talketh of judgment. The law of his God is in his heart; none of his steps shall slide.

For a person to receive truth one must first desire truth. For one to desire wisdom one must seek after wisdom. But for one to truly understand and know what truth is one must be willing to lose all that he knows and all that he has and all that he once loved that doesn’t align with the truth he has found.

I have received the ball into my court and have sacrificed it to leave the arena for what I have found is without the arena and without the ball. What I have found is what many desire but few seek and what I know is the way of life.

The eyes of man can never be satisfied and the sleight of hand one can be deceived. For in one instant of time many eyes can see but many lies can be told because of lack of memory. Sensory perception can open a world of clues, but interpretation of those clues are left open to folly. For within perception without words one can never be sure of what is truly being seen.

What was, and is, and is to come will without fail arrive but the question really is how did you spend your life? Here today gone tomorrow and what was life but a dream or flash of time? Was it a dream or was it real, all will find out in their end. For what is life many have sought, but many devout refuse to see. Their sight is blinded because of their heart and they walk away self righteous of heart.

Are you this man that I speak or are you this man that used to be? Are you this man who has much to learn or are you this man that has knowledge to discern? Are you this man who inwardly has sight or are you this man that has yet to see the Light?

“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.” (Isaiah 55:8-9)

The way to grace is only found in truth and obedient faith is only exercised by those who seek life. Life is only found when righteousness is given and righteousness can not be found with lack of wisdom, for wisdom leads in the way of righteousness.

Come sup with me and have everlasting life. The way is above to the wise and to the fool beneath. My flesh is meat and my blood is drink. Come partake and have everlasting life in me. The way is narrow and the gate is strait the choice is now don’t be late.

To be born again is the only way but many false doctrines lead you astray. Your life is more than food and drink and your body clothes. God is not mocked you reap what you sow.

To be born again as Jesus instructed you must be born again and follow a life of holiness. “Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.” (Acts 2:38-39) “Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord: Looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and thereby many be defiled;” (Heb 12:14-15)

Come let us Grow Together: Pride goes before Destruction, and an Haughty Spirit before a Fall

“Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall. Better it is to be of an humble spirit with the lowly, than to divide the spoil with the proud.” (Pro 16:18-19) “Seest thou a man wise in his own conceit? there is more hope of a fool than of him.” (Pro 26:12)

Where is wisdom to be found in the proud of heart and spirit? There “is more hope of a fool than of him.” “The fear of the LORD is to hate evil: pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way, and the froward mouth, do I hate.” (Pro 8:13)

“And he said unto them, Ye are they which justify yourselves before men; but God knoweth your hearts: for that which is highly esteemed among men is abomination in the sight of God.” (Lk 16:15) “An high look, and a proud heart, and the plowing of the wicked, is sin.” (Pro 21:4) “Let another man praise thee, and not thine own mouth; a stranger, and not thine own lips.” (Pro 27:2)

“Thou hast rebuked the proud that are cursed, which do err from thy commandments.” (Psa 119:21) “He that is of a proud heart stirreth up strife: but he that putteth his trust in the LORD shall be made fat. He that trusteth in his own heart is a fool: but whoso walketh wisely, he shall be delivered.” (Pro 28:25-26)

“Let no man deceive himself. If any man among you seemeth to be wise in this world, let him become a fool, that he may be wise. For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, He taketh the wise in their own craftiness. And again, The Lord knoweth the thoughts of the wise, that they are vain. Therefore let no man glory in men. For all things are yours; Whether Paul, or Apollos, or Cephas, or the world, or life, or death, or things present, or things to come; all are yours; And ye are Christ’s; and Christ is God’s.” (1 Cor 3:18-23)

“But he that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord. For not he that commendeth himself is approved, but whom the Lord commendeth.” (2 Cor 10:17-18) “And he sat down, and called the twelve, and saith unto them, If any man desire to be first, the same shall be last of all, and servant of all. And he took a child, and set him in the midst of them: and when he had taken him in his arms, he said unto them, Whosoever shall receive one of such children in my name, receiveth me: and whosoever shall receive me, receiveth not me, but him that sent me.” (Mk 9:35-37) “Thus saith the LORD, Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, neither let the mighty man glory in his might, let not the rich man glory in his riches: But let him that glorieth glory in this, that he understandeth and knoweth me, that I am the LORD which exercise lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness, in the earth: for in these things I delight, saith the LORD.” (Jer 9:23-24)

Daily Devotional – The Lips of the Wise Disperse Knowledge

“Good UNDERSTANDING giveth FAVOUR: but the way of TRANSGRESSORS is HARD. Every PRUDENT man DEALETH with KNOWLEDGE: but a FOOL layeth open his FOLLY.” (Pro 13:15-16) The LIPS of the WISE disperse KNOWLEDGE: but the HEART of the FOOLISH doeth NOT SO. The sacrifice of the WICKED is an ABOMINATION to the LORD: but THE PRAYER OF THE UPRIGHT IS HIS DELIGHT.

How is your prayer life with God? How often do you pray each day? How much time do you spend in prayer? Do you spend time in prayer for others? “Pray without ceasing.” (1 Thess 5:17) “Epaphras, who is one of you, a servant of Christ, saluteth you, always labouring fervently for you in prayers, that ye may stand perfect and complete in all the will of God.” (Col 4:12) “Finally, brethren, pray for us, that the word of the Lord may have free course, and be glorified, even as it is with you: And that we may be delivered from unreasonable and wicked men: for all men have not faith. But the Lord is faithful, who shall stablish you, and keep you from evil. And we have confidence in the Lord touching you, that ye both do and will do the things which we command you.” (2 Thess 3:1-4)

Daily Devotional – When thou hast Found it

“My son, eat thou honey, because it is good; and the honeycomb, which is sweet to thy taste: So shall the knowledge of wisdom be unto thy soul: when thou hast found it, then there shall be a reward, and thy expectation shall not be cut off.” (Pro 24:13-14) “The law of the wise is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death.” (Pro 13:14)

Have you found it yet? Are you looking for it? Are you searching for it the way that we are instructed to? “Blessed is the man that heareth me, watching daily at my gates, waiting at the posts of my doors. For whoso findeth me findeth life, and shall obtain favour of the LORD. But he that sinneth against me wrongeth his own soul: all they that hate me love death.” (Pro 8:34-36) “It cannot be gotten for gold, neither shall silver be weighed for the price thereof. It cannot be valued with the gold of Ophir, with the precious onyx, or the sapphire. The gold and the crystal cannot equal it: and the exchange of it shall not be for jewels of fine gold. No mention shall be made of coral, or of pearls: for the price of wisdom is above rubies. The topaz of Ethiopia shall not equal it, neither shall it be valued with pure gold. Whence then cometh wisdom? and where is the place of understanding?” (Job 28:15-20) “I wisdom dwell with prudence, and find out knowledge of witty inventions. The fear of the LORD is to hate evil: pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way, and the froward mouth, do I hate. Counsel is mine, and sound wisdom: I am understanding; I have strength. By me kings reign, and princes decree justice. By me princes rule, and nobles, even all the judges of the earth. I love them that love me; and those that seek me early shall find me. Riches and honour are with me; yea, durable riches and righteousness. My fruit is better than gold, yea, than fine gold; and my revenue than choice silver. I lead in the way of righteousness, in the midst of the paths of judgment: That I may cause those that love me to inherit substance; and I will fill their treasures.” (Pro 8:12-21) “If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord. A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.” (Jms 1:5-8)

Daily Devotional – A Good man Obtaineth Favour of the LORD

“Whoso loveth instruction loveth knowledge: but he that hateth reproof is brutish. A good man obtaineth favour of the Lord: but a man of wicked devices will he condemn. A man shall not be established by wickedness: but the root of the righteous shall not be moved. A virtuous woman is a crown to her husband: but she that maketh ashamed is as rottenness in his bones.” (Pro 12:1-4)

Are you interested in obtaining favor of the Lord? Are your motives for obtaining favor of the Lord pure or to be consumed upon your lust? “A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh.” (Lk 6:45) “For thou, LORD, wilt bless the righteous; with favour wilt thou compass him as with a shield.” (Psa 5:12) “Let not mercy and truth forsake thee: bind them about thy neck; write them upon the table of thine heart: So shalt thou find favour and good understanding in the sight of God and man.” (Pro 3:3-4) “Hear instruction, and be wise, and refuse it not. Blessed is the man that heareth me, watching daily at my gates, waiting at the posts of my doors. For whoso findeth me findeth life, and shall obtain favour of the LORD. But he that sinneth against me wrongeth his own soul: all they that hate me love death.” (Pro 8:33-36)

Daily Devotional – Receive my Instruction

“Receive my instruction, and not silver; and knowledge rather than choice gold. For wisdom is better than rubies; and all the things that may be desired are not to be compared to it.” (Pro 8:10-11) “I lead in the way of righteousness, in the midst of the paths of judgment.” (Pro 8:20)

If God were to ask you as he asked Solomon “Ask what I shall give thee” (1 Kings 3:5) would your reply be selfless as Solomon’s answer? Have you ever thought about it? Do you know what Solomon’s answer was to God? “And now, O LORD my God, thou hast made thy servant king instead of David my father: and I am but a little child: I know not how to go out or come in. And thy servant is in the midst of thy people which thou hast chosen, a great people, that cannot be numbered nor counted for multitude. Give therefore thy servant an understanding heart to judge thy people, that I may discern between good and bad: for who is able to judge this thy so great a people? And the speech pleased the Lord, that Solomon had asked this thing. And God said unto him, Because thou hast asked this thing, and hast not asked for thyself long life; neither hast asked riches for thyself, nor hast asked the life of thine enemies; but hast asked for thyself understanding to discern judgment; Behold, I have done according to thy words: lo, I have given thee a wise and an understanding heart; so that there was none like thee before thee, neither after thee shall any arise like unto thee.” (1 Kings 3:7-12) “For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.” (Mt 6:21)

Daily Devotional – For the LORD giveth wisdom

“For the LORD giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding. He layeth up sound wisdom for the righteous: he is a buckler to them that walk uprightly. He keepeth the paths of judgment, and preserveth the way of his saints. Then shalt thou understand righteousness, and judgment, and equity; yea, every good path.” (Pro 2:6-9)

Have you been studying the Bible? We just learned “the LORD giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding.” The Word of God, the Bible, is how you will gain wisdom because it was spoken from the mouth of God to his servants. “We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts: Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.” (2 Peter 1:19-21) Jesus said, “Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me. And ye will not come to me, that ye might have life.” (Jn 5:39-40) The Bereans searched the scriptures daily and many of them were saved because they believed the words of the Apostle Paul and Silas. “And the brethren immediately sent away Paul and Silas by night unto Berea: who coming thither went into the synagogue of the Jews. These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so. Therefore many of them believed; also of honourable women which were Greeks, and of men, not a few.” (Acts 17:10-12) The Apostle Peter knew the Apostle Paul was writing scripture from the mouth of God. “Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of him in peace, without spot, and blameless. And account that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given unto him hath written unto you; As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction.” (2 Peter 3:14-16) We are told to “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” (2 Tim 2:15) If you desire wisdom, knowledge, and understanding then you must faithfully, prayerfully, and diligently study the Word of God the Bible and seek for it.

Daily Devotional – When Wisdom Entereth into thine Heart

“My son, attend unto my wisdom, and bow thine ear to my understanding: That thou mayest regard discretion, and that thy lips may keep knowledge.” (Pro 5:1-2) “When wisdom entereth into thine heart, and knowledge is pleasant unto thy soul; Discretion shall preserve thee, understanding shall keep thee. To deliver thee from the way of the evil man, from the man that speaketh froward things.” (Pro 2:10-12)

When is the last time you prayed and sought God for wisdom and understanding? Is Godly knowledge pleasant to your soul? Do you know to whom God will teach knowledge? “Whom shall he teach knowledge? and whom shall he make to understand doctrine? them that are weaned from the milk, and drawn from the breasts. For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little:” (Isa 28:9-10) This is how the entire Bible is set up. You must pray and seek God for wisdom, knowledge, and understanding. “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” (2 Tim 2:15)

Daily Devotional – Who is a Wise Man and Endued with Knowledge

“Who is a wise man and endued with knowledge among you? let him shew out of a good conversation his works with meekness of wisdom. But if ye have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, glory not, and lie not against the truth. This wisdom descendeth not from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish. For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work. But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy. And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace of them that make peace.” (James 3:13-18)

How do you measure up to the wisdom that is from above? Godly wisdom “is first pure”! Is holy producing righteousness, uprightness, and virtue within those who possess it. Then peaceable! Godly wisdom is peaceable! “Let us therefore follow after the things which make for peace, and things wherewith one may edify another.” (Rm 14:19) “Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord:” (Heb 12:14) Godly wisdom is gentle, mild, moderate! Godly wisdom is easy to be intreated, persuaded, and compliant! As long as it fully aligns up with the scriptures! Godly wisdom is full of mercy! “And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you.” (Eph 4:32) Godly wisdom is full of good fruits! “Being filled with the fruits of righteousness, which are by Jesus Christ, unto the glory and praise of God.” (Phil 1:11) Godly wisdom is without partiality! “But if ye have respect to persons, ye commit sin, and are convinced of the law as transgressors.” (James 2:9) Godly wisdom is without hypocrisy! “And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?” (Lk 6:46) “And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace of them that make peace.” (Jms 3:18)
