C & C: How Can I, Except Some Man should Guide Me?

Acts 8:25-39
25 And they, when they had testified and preached the word of the Lord, returned to Jerusalem, and preached the gospel in many villages of the Samaritans.
26 And the angel of the Lord spake unto Philip, saying, Arise, and go toward the south unto the way that goeth down from Jerusalem unto Gaza, which is desert.
27 And he arose and went: and, behold, a man of Ethiopia, an eunuch of great authority under Candace queen of the Ethiopians, who had the charge of all her treasure, and had come to Jerusalem for to worship,
28 Was returning, and sitting in his chariot read Esaias the prophet.
29 Then the Spirit said unto Philip, Go near, and join thyself to this chariot.
30 And Philip ran thither to him, and heard him read the prophet Esaias, and said, Understandest thou what thou readest?
31 And he said, How can I, except some man should guide me? And he desired Philip that he would come up and sit with him.
32 The place of the scripture which he read was this, He was led as a sheep to the slaughter; and like a lamb dumb before his shearer, so opened he not his mouth:
33 In his humiliation his judgment was taken away: and who shall declare his generation? for his life is taken from the earth.
34 And the eunuch answered Philip, and said, I pray thee, of whom speaketh the prophet this? of himself, or of some other man?
35 Then Philip opened his mouth, and began at the same scripture, and preached unto him Jesus.
36 And as they went on their way, they came unto a certain water: and the eunuch said, See, here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptized?
37 And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.
38 And he commanded the chariot to stand still: and they went down both into the water, both Philip and the eunuch; and he baptized him.
39 And when they were come up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord caught away Philip, that the eunuch saw him no more: and he went on his way rejoicing.

It is of the utmost importance that you have a Pastor and a preacher in your life!! Otherwise how can you hear and understand except some man should guide you?

Romans 10:13-17
13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
14 How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?
15 And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!
16 But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Esaias saith, Lord, who hath believed our report?
17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

You need a Pastor and a preacher in your life to hear and understand the Word of God!! You need help from the called man of God!! “how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher? And how shall they preach, except they be sent?”

Hebrews 13:17
17 Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves: for they watch for your souls, as they that must give account, that they may do it with joy, and not with grief: for that is unprofitable for you.

It is vitally important that you understand what you read and what you hear!! It is vitally important that scripture is interpreted correctly!! It is vitally important to understand the context of the scriptures you are reading!! How can I, except some man should guide me?

Even the passages we just read have eternal consequences to your soul concerning salvation!! You can look at these scriptures and immediately say “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved” not keeping the verse at hand in context with the epistle to the Roman Church and not in the correct understanding with other scriptures to the destruction of your own soul!! Did the scripture not also say “But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Esaias saith, Lord, who hath believed our report?” Have you believed the report? Have you obeyed the gospel?

2 Timothy 2:15
15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

Are you studying the scriptures to see if what you are being taught is correct?

2 Timothy 3:16-17
16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
17 That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.

What about what Jesus said?

Matthew 7:21-23
21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.
22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?
23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

What about what the Apostle Paul just said in Romans chapter 10 verse 13? “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” Did he make a mistake? Or have a greater revelation than Jesus Christ of whom he received the gospel? Or is there something that you do not understand? How can I, except some man should guide me?

What is the context of the scripture at hand? How does this work together with the other scriptures in the Word of God? We just read that when Philip preached Jesus to the eunuch that the eunuch upon seeing “a certain water” “said, See, here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptized? And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. And he commanded the chariot to stand still: and they went down both into the water, both Philip and the eunuch; and he baptized him. And when they were come up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord caught away Philip, that the eunuch saw him no more: and he went on his way rejoicing.”

So after hearing and believing the preaching of Jesus the eunuch knew he must be baptized. So did the Apostle Paul not know this? Or is there something that you do not understand? How can I, except some man should guide me?

Does the Apostle Paul in Romans chapter 10 forget what he said in chapter 6 concerning baptism in Jesus name that the people obeyed? Does that make void what Jesus spoke? “Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.” Or is there something that you do not understand? How can I, except some man should guide me?

Romans 6:16-18
16 Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?
17 But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you.
18 Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness

So the people that the Apostle Paul was speaking to had “obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered” them before he later tells these same people “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” (Romans 10:13)

In Romans 6:17 we find that the Apostle Paul says, “but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you.” In Romans 10:9 above it read, “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.” Does this make void the doctrine that they obeyed from the heart that was delivered to them? The answer is no. It is written that they had obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered to them.

As you can see from this example you can not just go to a certain scripture in a certain book of the Word of God and decide that you understand it’s meaning without studying the rest of the scriptures contained elsewhere. What you see here is the people obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine that was delivered to them and then later on those people were told that “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.” This is because these people had “obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered” to them. What is this form of doctrine which was delivered to them? It is the baptism in Jesus name. Hear it!

Romans 6:3
3 Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death?

This form of doctrine that they obeyed from the heart is found in the book of Acts 2:36-39.

Acts 2:36-39
36 Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made the same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ.
37 Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do?
38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
39 For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the LORD our God shall call.

Acts 8:34-39

35 Then Philip opened his mouth, and began at the same scripture, and preached unto him Jesus.

The preaching of the gospel of Jesus Christ to someone who is not saved will always bring forth what you must do in order to be saved!! “Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the LORD our God shall call. And with many other words did he testify and exhort, saying, Save yourselves from this untoward generation. Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls.” (Acts 2:38-41)

Salvation is the gift of God but if you do not obey the gospel and “Save yourselves from this untoward generation” by applying what was spoken to “even as many as the LORD our God shall call” (Acts 2:39) then you will be lost in your sins because you did not obey the gospel of Jesus Christ!!

Let’s take a closer look at Romans chapter 6 where we learn that those to whom this epistle to the Church at Rome had already obeyed from their heart and you will discover the topic of baptism in Jesus name and that of the promise of the Holy Ghost. It was this form of doctrine that they had obeyed that had set them free from the law of sin and death!!

Let’s take a closer look at Romans chapter 6.

Romans 6:1-9
1 What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound?
2 God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?

Notice carefully the question asked here, “How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?” The Apostle Paul goes on to explain how we become dead to sin.

3 Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death?
4 Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.
5 For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection:

Notice the if clause in verse 5. If we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection. Also in verse 3 the Apostle Paul speaks of the baptism in Jesus name as the way that we are planted together in the likeness of his death. This is that form of doctrine that they obeyed from the heart which was delivered to them.

6 Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.
7 For he that is dead is freed from sin.
8 Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him:
9 Knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death hath no more dominion over him.

If you are not planted together in the likeness of his death, the body of sin will not be destroyed and you will perish in your sins because your old man was not crucified with him and therefore you will not be dead with Christ nor will you be freed from sin that you inherited from Adam.

How can I, except some man should guide me?

The New Testament Covenant

What is the New Testament Covenant?

Hebrews 8:10-12
10 For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people:
11 And they shall not teach every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the Lord: for all shall know me, from the least to the greatest.
12 For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more.

This is the New Testament Covenant! This is the promise that God made to the people of the New Testament.

Hebrews 8:7-9
7 For if that first covenant had been faultless, then should no place have been sought for the second.
8 For finding fault with them (the people), he saith, Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah:
9 Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day when I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt; because they continued not in my covenant, and I regarded them not, saith the Lord.

So how do we partake of this New Covenant that God promised would come?

To partake of this New Testament Covenant that God promised, we must be obedient to the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

What is the Gospel of Jesus Christ?

1 Corinthians 15:1-4
1 Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand;
2 By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.
3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;
4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

So the Gospel of Jesus Christ is that Jesus Christ died, was buried, and he rose again the third day.

So for us to partake of the New Testament Covenant, we must be obedient to the gospel of Jesus Christ. Which was that Jesus Christ died, was buried, and he rose again the third day.

How then do we partake of Jesus Christ’s death, burial, and resurrection? For this answer, lets listen to what Jesus tells us in the four gospels books.

Luke 13:1-5
1 There were present at that season some that told him of the Galilaeans, whose blood Pilate had mingled with their sacrifices.
2 And Jesus answering said unto them, Suppose ye that these Galilaeans were sinners above all the Galilaeans, because they suffered such things?
3 I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.
4 Or those eighteen, upon whom the tower in Siloam fell, and slew them, think ye that they were sinners above all men that dwelt in Jerusalem?
5 I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.

According to Jesus we must repent or we will perish.

Mark 16:15-16
15 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.
16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.

We are told by Jesus here that we must believe and be baptized in order to be saved.

John 3:1-7
1 There was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews:
2 The same came to Jesus by night, and said unto him, Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God: for no man can do these miracles that thou doest, except God be with him.
3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.
4 Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother’s womb, and be born?
5 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.
6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.
7 Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.

Here we find out by Jesus that we must be born again or we cannot see or enter into the kingdom of God.

Matthew 10:22
22 And ye shall be hated of all men for my name’s sake: but he that endureth to the end shall be saved.

And finally we learn that we must endure to the end to be saved.

So to sum up what we were told, Jesus tells us that we must believe, repent, be born again of water and of the Sprit, and finally we must endure to the end.

So to be obedient to the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, we must believe, repent, be born of water, be born of Spirit, and then endure to the end.

In Acts chapter 2 verses 1-4 we learn….

Acts 2:1-4
1 And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.
2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.
3 And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.
4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

As we continue reading we find that there were Jews present out of every nation under heaven. They questioned, what meaneth this? Apostle Peter explains to all that are present this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel. That it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh.
And then in……

Acts 2:36-41
36 Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made that same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ.
37 Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do?

The people there believed that what the Apostle Peter spoke was the truth, and it pricked their hearts, and brought forth conviction, and they asked, Men and brethren, What shall we do????

38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
39 For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.
40 And with many other words did he testify and exhort, saying, Save yourselves from this untoward generation.
41 Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls.

Notice that the people believed, then the Apostle Peter tells them to repent, be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and then tells them that they will receive the Gift of the Holy Ghost. This is the fulfillment of what Jesus instructed us to do in the gospels.

Notice verse 39 tells us that this promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call. This lets us know without any doubt that this promise was to everyone throughout every generation that is to come.

So to partake of the New Testament Covenant, we must be obedient to the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ, by being born again of water and of the Spirit.

To fulfill these instructions given by God, we must do what the Apostle Peter instructed us. We must repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

Hebrews 8:13
13 In that he saith, A new covenant, he hath made the first old. Now that which decayeth and waxeth old is ready to vanish away.

Hebrews 9:14-28
14 How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?
15 And for this cause he is the mediator of the new testament, that by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions that were under the first testament, they which are called might receive the promise of eternal inheritance.
16 For where a testament is, there must also of necessity be the death of the testator.
17 For a testament is of force after men are dead: otherwise it is of no strength at all while the testator liveth.
18 Whereupon neither the first testament was dedicated without blood.
19 For when Moses had spoken every precept to all the people according to the law, he took the blood of calves and of goats, with water, and scarlet wool, and hyssop, and sprinkled both the book, and all the people,
20 Saying, This is the blood of the testament which God hath enjoined unto you.
21 Moreover he sprinkled with blood both the tabernacle, and all the vessels of the ministry.
22 And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission.

Matthew 26:26-29
26 And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and blessed it, and brake it, and gave it to the disciples, and said, Take, eat; this is my body.
27 And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, Drink ye all of it;
28 For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.
29 But I say unto you, I will not drink henceforth of this fruit of the vine, until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father’s kingdom.

Jesus Christ the Righteous! The sacrificial Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.

After we partake of the gospel of Jesus Christ, which was the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, we now have the New Testament Promise. The Covenant God made with His people. Which was….

So how does this process of the New Testament Covenant work?

Romans 5:8-21
8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
9 Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.
10 For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life.
11 And not only so, but we also joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we have now received the atonement.
12 Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:
13 (For until the law sin was in the world: but sin is not imputed when there is no law.
14 Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over them that had not sinned after the similitude of Adam’s transgression, who is the figure of him that was to come.
15 But not as the offence, so also is the free gift. For if through the offence of one many be dead, much more the grace of God, and the gift by grace, which is by one man, Jesus Christ, hath abounded unto many.
16 And not as it was by one that sinned, so is the gift: for the judgment was by one to condemnation, but the free gift is of many offences unto justification.
17 For if by one man’s offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.)
18 Therefore as by the offence of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life.
19 For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous.
20 Moreover the law entered, that the offence might abound. But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound:
21 That as sin hath reigned unto death, even so might grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord.

Thank God for his wonderful Gifts that He has left behind for us to partake of!

Scriptures to Commit to Memory and some of the Reasons Why

1) Isaiah 28:9-13, 2 Timothy 3:16-17, 2 Timothy 2:15-16, Hebrews 11:6, 1 Corinthians 2:12-14

The goal here is to show how scriptures are set up in the Bible so that one can learn to whom God will teach knowledge and to whom God will make to understand doctrine. That all scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness. That without faith it is impossible to please God for he that comes to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him, because the natural man receives not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.

2) Luke 23:39-43, Mark 2:5-11, Hebrews 9:15-28, Luke 22:19-20, 1 Corinthians 11:23-30

The goal here is to show that the thief on the cross died under the Old Testament and was not part of the New Testament which did not take place until Acts chapter 2 when the Holy Ghost was poured out upon the believers. This was the birth of the New Testament Church.

3) John 3:1-8, Luke 13:1-5, Mark 16:14-18, Luke 24:44-53, Matthew 28:18-20, Acts 2:36-39

The goal here is to show how we must be born again to see or enter the kingdom of God. This shows we must repent, be baptized, and the name we are to be baptized in according to Jesus’ own words which took place in Luke 24:47 as well as Matthew 28:19 and when both are fulfilled as the Apostles understood since Jesus had opened their understanding concerning himself in scripture in Luke 24:44 the fulfillment is found in Acts 2:38.

4) Acts 2:36-39, Acts 8:13-22, Acts 10:44-48, Acts 19:1-6, Acts 22:16

The goal here is to show that baptism is always done in Jesus name. This also covers in a few instances the receiving of the Holy Ghost speaking with other tongues as the Spirit gives the utterance and that it isn’t an automatic process. This can be seen in Acts chapter 8:16 and Acts 19:6. For those who say that Acts chapter 8 doesn’t specifically mention speaking in other tongues as the Spirit gives the utterance it is clear that Simon saw that by the laying on of the Apostle’s hands the people received the Holy Ghost and he offered them money. What did he see? He never offered money when he was watching miracles and signs being performed. The scriptures already have shown that receiving the Holy Ghost was evidenced with the speaking with other tongues as the Spirit gave the utterance and doesn’t have to reiterate it every time.

5) 1 Corinthians 15:1-4, Acts 2:36-39, Ephesians 2:8-9, Titus 2:11-13, Galatians 5:6, Titus 3:4-5, Ephesians 5:25-27

The goal here is to show that by grace you are saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. However, the grace of God teaches us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world and that faith works by love. As Jesus said, “If ye love me, keep my commandments.” (John 14:15) So for us to be saved by grace through faith we must be obedient to the commandments God has given to us that show us how to be born again of water and of the Spirit (John 3:1-8) or we do not love Jesus. This is fulfilled when we obey the gospel of the Lord’s death, burial, and resurrection by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost, where we are sanctified and cleansed by the washing of water by the word. Which are references to how we were born again. Which is referencing the plan of salvation for all mankind which was given in the book of Acts chapter 2 by the Apostle Peter. “Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.” (Acts 2:38-39)

6) Acts 2:36-39, Romans 6:1-8, Romans 6:14-19, Romans 10:8-17, Colossians 2:11-15, 1 Peter 3:20-22

The goal here is to show that those to whom the Apostle Paul said, “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved” (Romans 10:9) that those same people had already been obedient to the plan of salvation found in the book of Acts as they had already “obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you. Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness.” (Romans 6:17-18) This statement the Apostle Paul made in direct reference to the beginning of the same chapter saying, “Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.” (Romans 6:3-4) We also find out that it is in the water baptism in Jesus name that we “are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ: Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead.” (Colossians 2:11-12) This is why the Apostle Peter who was the Apostle who gave us the plan of salvation in the book of Acts 2:38 says in 1 Peter 3:21 “whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ:” The baptism in Jesus name saves us not by the putting away of the filth of the flesh but rather by the circumcision of Christ where we are buried with him in baptism. Thus the answer of a good conscience toward God because of your faith of the operation of God where your sins are remitted. Thus “baptism doth also now save us”.

7) Isaiah 28:9-13, Acts 2:1-4, Acts 2:16-21, Joel 2:28-32, 1 Corinthians 14:21, 1 Corinthians 12:1, 1 Corinthians 12:27-31, 1 Corinthians 14:1, 1 Corinthians 14:12

The goal here is to show the Holy Ghost as was prophesied to come and how it was fulfilled with the speaking with other tongues as the Spirit gave the utterance. It is also to show that from 1 Corinthians chapters 12-14 the topic is spiritual gifts and not the receiving of the Holy Ghost. It also shows that to compare the gift of divers kinds of tongues to the receiving of the Holy Ghost evidenced with the speaking with others tongues as the Spirit gives the utterance to try to justify why every one doesn’t speak with other tongues when they receive the Holy Ghost is also comparable to saying do all have the gift of faith even as the gift of faith isn’t the same as having faith of which if you did not have you would not become born again and thus would not receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. Even so the gift of faith and the gift of divers kinds of tongues are only gifts of the Holy Ghost of which you must first receive to operate any of the gifts.

8) Isaiah 7:14, Isaiah 9:6-7, Matthew 1:20-25, John 10:30, John 14:15-20, Hebrews 1:4-5, Acts 2:32-33, 1 Timothy 3:16

The goal here is to show that the son that was to be born of a virgin would be both “The mighty God, The everlasting Father” and that it was the Holy Ghost that overshadowed the virgin Mary when she conceived child and that child’s name was Jesus of which was received by inheritance and since Jesus said “ I and my Father are one” and that it was himself that would not leave us comfortless saying “I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you” while it was Jesus himself that poured out the Holy Ghost upon the believers whereas the Apostle Peter said, “he hath shed forth this, which ye now see and hear”. It becomes apparent that the revealed name of God in the New Testament was Jesus as Jesus is God manifest in the flesh.

9) John 1:17, Romans 3:19-20, Romans 6:12-16, Romans 7:12, Romans 8:1-4, Romans 10:4, 2 Corinthians 3:6-11, Galatians 3:9-13, Galatians 4:4-7, Ephesians 2:13-18, Hebrews 8:6-13, Hebrews 10:9-18

The goal here is to show with absolute certainty that we are not living under the Old Testament Law of Moses. “For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.” (John 1:17) “For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.” (Romans 6:14) “For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh:” (Romans 8:3) “For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth.” (Romans 10:4) “For if that first covenant had been faultless, then should no place have been sought for the second.” (Hebrews 8:7) “In that he saith, A new covenant, he hath made the first old. Now that which decayeth and waxeth old is ready to vanish away.” (Hebrews 8:13) “Then said he, Lo, I come to do thy will, O God. He taketh away the first, that he may establish the second. By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.” (Hebrews 10:9-10)

10) Isaiah 28:9-13, Matthew 11:28-30, Acts 2:1-4, 1 Corinthians 14:21-22, Hebrews 4:1-11, Colossians 2:16-17, Romans 14:4-6, Galatians 4:9-11, Galatians 4:19-26, Romans 10:4

The goal here is to show how the Sabbath rest is fulfilled in Jesus Christ through the receiving of the Holy Ghost. “For with stammering lips and another tongue will he speak to this people. To whom he said, This is the rest wherewith ye may cause the weary to rest; and this is the refreshing: yet they would not hear.” (Isaiah 28:11-12) “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.” (Matthew 11:28-29) “In the law it is written, With men of other tongues and other lips will I speak unto this people; and yet for all that will they not hear me, saith the Lord. Wherefore tongues are for a sign, not to them that believe, but to them that believe not: but prophesying serveth not for them that believe not, but for them which believe.” (1 Corinthians 14:21-22) In verse 21 the Apostle Paul is speaking of the receiving of the Holy Ghost as the Spirit gives the utterance when a person first receives the Holy Ghost while also confirming once again that there are those for all that will they not hear me, saith the Lord. Whereas in verse 22 the Apostle Paul goes back to the main topic of spiritual gifts of the Holy Ghost and thus speaking in other tongues as the Spirit gives the utterance becomes a snare as seen from Isaiah 28:13 which says, “But the word of the LORD was unto them precept upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little; that they might go, and fall backward, and be broken, and snared, and taken.” (See number 7 for explanation of receiving the Holy Ghost versus divers kinds of tongues.) This Sabbath rest being fulfilled in Jesus Christ through the receiving of the Holy Ghost continues to be seen “Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of entering into his rest, any of you should seem to come short of it. For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it.” (Hebrews 4:1-2) “For he spake in a certain place of the seventh day on this wise, And God did rest the seventh day from all his works. And in this place again, If they shall enter into my rest. Seeing therefore it remaineth that some must enter therein, and they to whom it was first preached entered not in because of unbelief:” (Hebrews 4:4-6) “For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his. Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief.” (Hebrews 4:10-11) “Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days: Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ.” (Colossians 2:16-17) “For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth.” (Romans 10:4) Remember we are not living under the Mosaic Law, but grace and truth by Jesus Christ.

11) Hebrews 12:14, Matthew 5:9, 2 Corinthians 6:14 – 2 Corinthians 7:1, 1 John 2:15-17, 1 Peter 1:13-16

The goal here is to show that following after peace and holiness is part of salvation. That we are not to be unequally yoked together with unbelievers for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? We are told to “come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you” and to “cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.” “For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.” Therefore we are to be “As obedient children, not fashioning yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance” “Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.

C & C: The same Lord over all is Rich unto all that Call upon Him

Romans 10:12-13
12 For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him.
13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

What a tremendous and precious promise of God given to us here! However, this promise only applies to those that are called of God! This is very important for you to both hear and understand. This promise does not apply to everyone who claims to be a Christian it only applies to those who are called. This is to help you to get understanding that you may be one of these people who thinks it applies to you when it does not. But it can if you will recognize that you may not have applied the plan of salvation correctly in your life at this point in time.

A closer look.

Romans 10:9-21
9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
11 For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.
12 For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him.
13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
14 How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?
15 And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!
16 But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Esaias saith, Lord, who hath believed our report?
17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
18 But I say, Have they not heard? Yes verily, their sound went into all the earth, and their words unto the ends of the world.
19 But I say, Did not Israel know? First Moses saith, I will provoke you to jealousy by them that are no people, and by a foolish nation I will anger you.
20 But Esaias is very bold, and saith, I was found of them that sought me not; I was made manifest unto them that asked not after me.
21 But to Israel he saith, All day long I have stretched forth my hands unto a disobedient and gainsaying people.

What about what we read and learned from the same book of Romans just four chapters earlier concerning baptism in Jesus name? It’s time to Get familiar with the Letter not a Verse of the Letter!!

Romans 6:17-19
17 But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you.
18 Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness.
19 I speak after the manner of men because of the infirmity of your flesh: for as ye have yielded your members servants to uncleanness and to iniquity unto iniquity; even so now yield your members servants to righteousness unto holiness.

As you can see from this example you can not just go to a certain scripture in a certain book and decide that you understand its meaning without studying the rest of the scriptures contained elsewhere. What you see here is the people obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine that was delivered to them and then later on those people were told that “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.” This is because these people had “obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered” to them. What is this form of doctrine which was delivered to them? It is the baptism in Jesus name. Hear it!

Romans 6:1-3
1 What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound?
2 God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?
3 Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death?

This form of doctrine that they obeyed from the heart is found in the book of Acts 2:36-39.

So when you get to Romans chapter 10 and see the promises spoken you must not forget that just four chapters earlier what these same people were told. Therefore there isn’t a contradiction of scriptures concerning the true plan of salvation which is “Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the LORD our God shall call” and “confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.”

Jesus has plainly said that not everyone that “saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.” So the promises of God only apply to those that are called, and chosen, and faithful.

Romans 8:28-39
28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

The promise again only applies to those “who are the called according to his purpose.” Not to everyone who professes to be a Christian as we just read. Jesus has already said, “Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.”

This is to help you to get understanding that you may be one of these people who thinks it applies to you when it does not. But it can if you will recognize that you may not have applied the plan of salvation correctly in your life at this point in time.

Continuing from Romans chapter 8
29 For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.
30 Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified.
31 What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?

Remember just two chapters earlier we learned in Romans 6:17 that the Apostle Paul says, “but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you.” In Romans 10:9 above it read, “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.” But Jesus said, “Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.” So the promise is only to those who “obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you”. That doctrine being the plan of salvation that they had already partook of as the Apostle Paul explains to them.

Romans 6:1-9
1 What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound?
2 God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?

Notice carefully the question asked here, “How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?” The Apostle Paul goes on to explain how we become dead to sin.

Colossians 2:10-14
10 And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power:
11 In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ:
12 Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead.
13 And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses;
14 Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;

This is how you are made free from sin. You are baptized in Jesus name that the body of sin may be destroyed by the circumcision of Christ.

This is why Jesus said in…

Mark 16:16
16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.

The Apostle Peter tells us that it is by water baptism that we are saved. This is because the body of sin was destroyed by the circumcision made without hands in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised Jesus from the dead.

1 Peter 3:18-21
18 For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit:
19 By which also he went and preached unto the spirits in prison;
20 Which sometime were disobedient, when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water.
21 The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ:

Not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but where the body of sin is destroyed. Your inherited Adamic sins being cut away or washed away by the circumcision made without hands in water baptism in Jesus name by full water immersion.

This is why Jesus also told us,

Matthew 28:19
19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:

And the Apostle’s who were given full understanding of the mystery of God, and of the Father, and of Christ understood the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost as the name of Jesus. As Jesus Christ himself told them it was his name when he opened their understanding up to the scriptures.

Luke 24:44-49
44 And he said unto them, These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me.
45 Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures,
46 And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day:
47 And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.
48 And ye are witnesses of these things.
49 And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high.

At verse 47 Jesus after just opening their understanding of the scriptures concerning himself written in the in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms said “that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.”

And thus the baptismal commission given by Jesus to baptize them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost is his own name Jesus. And the baptismal formula was given when the day of Pentecost was fully come and the Holy Ghost was poured out upon the believers by the very disciples that Jesus opened their understanding of the scriptures concerning himself written in the in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms saying “that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.” The formula being found in the same chapter Acts 2:38 which reads, “Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.” This is that form of doctrine that was delivered to them that they obeyed from the heart that we see in Romans 6:17. Thus to these as well as to those of us who have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine that was delivered to us know “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.” This being because we were obedient to the gospel of Jesus Christ, which is the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

This is to help you to get understanding that you may be one of these people who thinks you are saved when you are not. But you can be saved if you will recognize that you have not yet applied the plan of salvation correctly in your life at this point in time.

Continuing from Romans chapter 8
32 He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?
33 Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God’s elect? It is God that justifieth.
34 Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us.
35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?
36 As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.
37 Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.
38 For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,
39 Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Romans 10:12

The Gift of Divers Kinds of Tongues versus the Receiving of the Holy Ghost

Isaiah 28:11-13
11 For with stammering lips and another tongue will he speak to this people.

The initial sign of receiving the free gift of the Holy Ghost was the speaking with other tongues, as the Spirit gave the utterance, just as the Prophet Isaiah prophesied would be the case.

Remember: If you have not received the Holy Ghost with the evidence of speaking with other tongues, as the Spirit gives the utterance, you have not received the free gift of the Holy Ghost.

The Confusion:

1) Many people are under the belief that the Holy Ghost is automatically given to you at some point. Many believe the receiving of the Holy Ghost takes place after repenting and accepting Christ into their lives. However, this is in direct contradiction to scripture.

2) Some people believe that the speaking with other tongues, as the Spirit gives the utterance is only one of the nine gifts of the Holy Ghost and not everyone has this gift. So not all people that have the Holy Ghost will speak with other tongues. The error in this belief is not recognizing that you must first receive the Gift of the Holy Ghost before you can receive one of the nine gifts of the Holy Ghost.

To state this very plainly: The 9 gifts of the Holy Ghost are not the same as the initial receiving of the Holy Ghost. The 9 gifts of the Holy Ghost are gifts of the gift. You must first have the gift before you can receive any of the other gifts of the gift. Another words, the gift of divers kinds of tongues is not the same as the receiving of the Holy Ghost with the evidence of speaking with other tongues, as the Spirit gives the utterance. Divers kinds of tongues is one of the nine gifts of the gift of the Holy Ghost.

The Holy Ghost is not automatically given to you because you have repented of your sins and have been baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ for the remission of your sins. The scriptures state this very plainly.

The Samaritans receive the Holy Ghost…..

Acts 8:12-18
12 But when they believed Philip preaching the things concerning the kingdom of God, and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women.
13 Then Simon himself believed also: and when he was baptized, he continued with Philip, and wondered, beholding the miracles and signs which were done.
14 Now when the apostles which were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent unto them Peter and John:
15 Who, when they were come down, prayed for them, that they might receive the Holy Ghost:
16 (For as yet he was fallen upon none of them: only they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.)

Here we see very clearly that these people had repented of their sins and were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ for the remission of their sins, and that none of them had received the free gift of the Holy Ghost.

The Holy Ghost is not automatically given to you because you believe on the name of Jesus Christ. Nor is it given to you just because you repent of your sins. Nor is it given to you just because you have been baptized into Christ.

17 Then laid they their hands on them, and they received the Holy Ghost.
18 And when Simon saw that through laying on of the apostles’ hands the Holy Ghost was given, he offered them money,

Remember: The scriptures do not have to redundantly state over and over again, that when you receive the Holy Ghost that you will speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gives the utterance. We already saw that the Prophet Isaiah prophesied that the receiving of the free gift of the Holy Ghost would come with stammering lips and another tongue and we already saw that when the Holy Ghost was poured out upon the people on the day of Pentecost they all began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

So even though it does not state here that the people spoke with other tongues, we already know from the Prophet Isaiah that this will take place when you receive the Holy Ghost and we know that when the first people received the Holy Ghost they spoke with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

You can then conclude that what Simon the sorcerer saw was that after the Apostle prayed for the people to receive the Holy Ghost, he saw them all begin to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave the utterance.

The Apostle Paul in 1 Corinthians chapters 12-14 is identifying the gifts of the Spirit and giving instructions on how to properly use these 9 gifts of the Spirit. You can’t have any of these gifts if you don’t have the Spirit. And in order for you to receive this Spirit you must seek the Lord for this Spirit and when your receive this Spirit, you will speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gives the utterance. This is why the Apostle Paul stated in: 1 Corinthians 14:39 Wherefore, brethren, covet to prophesy, and forbid not to speak with tongues.

First thing of importance is that the Apostle Paul wrote a letter to one of the Churches explaining spiritual gifts. Letters or Epistle written to already established Churches understood the plan of Salvation as Repenting of your sins and being baptized in Jesus name for the remission of your sins. They also understood the promise of the Holy Ghost to the believer evidenced with the speaking of other tongues as the Spirit gives the utterance.

This Epistle written to the Corinthian Church was instructions concerning the nine gifts of the Spirit from chapters 12 – 14.

So what is the gift of divers kinds of tongues and the gift of the interpretation of tongues?

The gift of divers kinds of tongues is used for the edifying of the Body of Christ, when this gift is in operation and the gift of interpretation is in use with it. These 2 gifts have nothing to do with a person receiving the Holy Ghost as evidenced with the speaking with other tongues, as the Spirit gives the utterance!

The Apostle Paul in 1 Corinthians chapters 12-14 is identifying the gifts of the Spirit and giving instructions on how to properly use these 9 gifts of the Spirit.

1 Corinthians 12:1
1 Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I would not have you ignorant.

The topic spiritual gifts.

1 Corinthians 12:4
4 Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit.

You have to have the Spirit to have one of the 9 gifts of the Spirit.

1 Corinthians 12:28-31
28 And God hath set some in the church, first apostles, secondarily prophets, thirdly teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, governments, diversities of tongues.
29 Are all apostles? are all prophets? are all teachers? are all workers of miracles?
30 Have all the gifts of healing? do all speak with tongues? do all interpret?
31 But covet earnestly the best gifts: and yet show I unto you a more excellent way.

Topic is still the nine gifts of the Holy Ghost or the spiritual gifts of the Holy Ghost. We are told in verse 28 how the Lord has set some of these in the Church. The Body of Christ is many members so not everyone will have the same giftings or callings. However, this is speaking of the nine gifts of the Holy Ghost not the receiving of the Holy Ghost.

The more excellent way from verse 31 is not saying to make void the others, but rather to be sure you have charity in your life. Charity is love and love is the fulfilling of the Law.

1 Corinthians 13:1
1 Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal.

Teaching the importance of having charity which is love.

At the beginning of Chapter 14 the Apostle Paul then tells the Church to pursue both charity and to desire spiritual gifts.

1 Corinthians 14:1
14:1 Follow after charity, and desire spiritual gifts, but rather that ye may prophesy.

Also again the topic is still spiritual gifts. “Follow after charity, and desire spiritual gifts”.

1 Corinthians 14:2-5
2 For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries.
3 But he that prophesieth speaketh unto men to edification, and exhortation, and comfort.
4 He that speaketh in an unknown tongue edifieth himself; but he that prophesieth edifieth the church.
5 I would that ye all spake with tongues, but rather that ye prophesied: for greater is he that prophesieth than he that speaketh with tongues, except he interpret, that the church may receive edifying.

This was not speaking of people receiving the Holy Ghost or worshiping God while speaking in tongues, but was speaking of one of the nine gifts of the Holy Ghost of which one is the gift of divers kinds of tongues as was stated from the topic from verse 1 which was spiritual gifts.

The only time the gift of interpretation of tongues is needed is when the gift of divers kinds of tongues is in use. Recall from verse one that the topic is spiritual gifts, not the receiving of the Holy Ghost.

So how do you know the difference? When someone begins to use the gift of divers kinds of tongues, the whole Body of Christ present, knows it. Immediately the Spirit of God will quicken inside of you, and you will know to be quiet to listen to what God has for the Church. Now if an interpreter is not present or if the person speaking in divers kinds of tongues is unable to interpret the message, then they are to remain silent. For how is the Body of Christ edified if the message intended for the Church is left without an interpretation?

But this has nothing to do with the receiving of the Holy Ghost!!! For the receiving of the Holy Ghost and the speaking with other tongues, as the Spirit gives the utterance is how one receives the gift of the Holy Ghost. Thus why the Apostle Paul said, forbid not to speak with tongues!

You do not need an interpreter when someone is receiving the Holy Ghost.

1 Corinthians 14:12
12 Even so ye, forasmuch as ye are zealous of spiritual gifts, seek that ye may excel to the edifying of the church.

Verse 12 again identifies the topic as spiritual gifts.

1 Corinthians 14:19
18 I thank my God, I speak with tongues more than ye all:
19 Yet in the church I had rather speak five words with my understanding, that by my voice I might teach others also, than ten thousand words in an unknown tongue.

Teaching us that we want those who come to our church to be able to learn. However we must not quench the Spirit. And this again is speaking of the same topic which was spiritual gifts of which the gifts of divers kinds of tongues, interpretation of tongues, and the gift of prophesy are the gifts being spoken of. These gifts edify the body of Christ when used correctly.

1 Thessalonians 5:19
19 Quench not the Spirit.

1 Corinthians 14:21-25
21 In the law it is written, With men of other tongues and other lips will I speak unto this people; and yet for all that will they not hear me, saith the Lord.
22 Wherefore tongues are for a sign, not to them that believe, but to them that believe not: but prophesying serveth not for them that believe not, but for them which believe.
23 If therefore the whole church be come together into one place, and all speak with tongues, and there come in those that are unlearned, or unbelievers, will they not say that ye are mad?

Meaning that they would not hear as was spoken in verse 21. So the sign of speaking with other tongues was not for the believer but for the unbeliever who thinks you are mad. Yet they would not hear!

24 But if all prophesy, and there come in one that believeth not, or one unlearned, he is convinced of all, he is judged of all:
25 And thus are the secrets of his heart made manifest; and so falling down on his face he will worship God, and report that God is in you of a truth.

This being a sign for the believer because the unbeliever has testified that the prophecy was true.

Also Apostle Paul is explaining what was written in the Law concerning the Holy Ghost. That they would not hear. The sign of the receiving of the Holy Ghost was concerning the non believer thinking you were mad. However the people on the day of Pentecost believed the Word of God and the preaching of Jesus Christ. They believed that this was that which was prophesied by the Prophet Joel. Others who saw this sign thought they were drunk and mocked. This would be those who think you are mad.

However, Paul then again stresses the importance of prophecy in comparison to receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost. Remember the topic was concerning spiritual gifts and the edifying of the Body, which comes by the gift of prophecy or the gift of divers kinds of tongues with the gift of interpretation of tongues. These edify the body when in use. The subject is still spiritual gifts.

The people on the Day of Pentecost did not need an interpreter because the Lord allowed the people there at that time to be speaking in languages that the people understood. This also was not the gift of divers kinds of tongues in use to edify the body of Christ as a message to the Church. This was the birth of the New Testament Church and the receiving of the Holy Ghost. Never the less, many of these people still thought the people were drunk and mocked them. Thus still thinking the people were mad.

So in comparison to the Day of Pentecost and the receiving of the Holy Ghost, the divers kinds of tongues needs to be used with the gift of interpretation. However, even if so, this doesn’t mean every non believer will believe. Many will still think you are mad just as they did on the day of Pentecost.

However the gift of prophecy being used is greater because it reveals the secrets of mens hearts and they falling down on their face report that God is in you of a truth.

1 Corinthians 14:39
39 Wherefore, brethren, covet to prophesy, and forbid not to speak with tongues.

1 Peter 3:18-20

Both Paradise and Hell were in the bowels of the Earth at this time. Two areas separated by a great gulf fixed between them. The one side of this area of departed souls was for the wicked while the other side was for the righteous. Those that were wicked opened their eyes in flames of fire. While those that were righteous entered into Abraham’s bosom, which was also called Paradise.

The greek word in use here for hell is:
86. haides, hah’-dace; from G1 (as a neg. particle) and G1492; prop. unseen, i.e. “Hades” or the place (state) of departed souls:–grave, hell.

Luke 16:19-31
19 There was a certain rich man, which was clothed in purple and fine linen, and fared sumptuously every day:

The Lord Jesus also took back the power that the devil had over mankind.

After Jesus died, was buried, and resurrected, he told His disciples:

Luke 24:46-53

Luke, the beloved physician, is also the author of the book of Acts.

Acts 1:3-5
3 To whom also he showed himself alive after his passion by many infallible proofs, being seen of them forty days, and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God:
4 And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me.
5 For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence.

When the Apostles and disciples gathered in Jerusalem and were continually in the temple, praising and blessing God, they were waiting upon the Holy Ghost as Jesus had promised them.

Remember we are in transition from the Old Testament Covenant to the New Testament Covenant.

Luke 22:20b
This cup is the new testament in my blood, which is shed for you.

No Testament can come into force without the death of the testator.

Hebrews 9:16-17
16 For where a testament is, there must also of necessity be the death of the testator.
17 For a testament is of force after men are dead: otherwise it is of no strength at all while the testator liveth.

The outpouring of the Holy Ghost when the day of Pentecost was fully come, was the fulfilling of the New Testament Covenant, which is:

10 For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people:
11 And they shall not teach every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the Lord: for all shall know me, from the least to the greatest.
12 For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more.
13 In that he saith, A new covenant, he hath made the first old. Now that which decayeth and waxeth old is ready to vanish away.

As soon as the Holy Ghost was poured out, when the day of Pentecost was fully come, this is what took place:

38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
39 For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.
40 And with many other words did he testify and exhort, saying, Save yourselves from this untoward generation.
41 Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls.
42 And they continued stedfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers.

This is how you partake of the New Testament Covenant that the Lord spoke, I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people……For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more.

The only way that this can take place for you is to follow what the Apostle Peter has spoken, which was, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

Saved by Grace, if you are Obedient unto Righteousness

Ephesians 2:8-10
8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.
10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

Let’s talk about these couple of versus for a moment. We are saved by grace through faith. So it is through our faith in God we obtain His grace. It is the gift of God and not of works. We are his workmanship created unto….. Good works, which God has before ordained that we should walk in these Good works.

So even though we are not saved by Works, we are told we were created to walk in Good works. We are not saved by these good works, but we are saved by our obedience to the keeping of God’s commandments and by walking even as He walked.

1 John 2:1-6
1 My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous:
2 And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.
3 And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments.
4 He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.
5 But whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in him.
6 He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked.

So we are saved by Grace and not of Works. So if we are saved by God’s grace, then shouldn’t we understand what the Grace of God teaches us, and how the Grace of God works???

Titus 2:11-14
11 For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men,
12 Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world;
13 Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ;
14 Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.

Here again, we were told that we as the children of God, should be zealous of Good works. Now let us expound upon this passage of scriptures for a moment. The grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men… and it teaches us something…. that we should: 1) Deny ungodliness and worldly lusts, 2) that we should live soberly, righteously, and Godly, in this present world, 3) We should be looking for the appearing of our Saviour Jesus Christ who gave himself to purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.

This is what the Grace of God teaches us and how we should be living. Otherwise, we are not following after the Grace of God that saves us.

What is ungodliness and worldly lusts? Ungodliness is living in wickedness and sinfulness. Worldly lusts is a longing or desire to take part in things that are of the world in which the world craves after and desires. These things are not of God.

I John 2:16-17
16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.
17 And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.

But we who are alive from the dead are to grow in the grace of God which teaches us to live soberly, righteously, and Godly, in this present world.

To live Soberly, means to have a sound mind; showing self-control.

To live Righteously means to behave in an upright, moral way; a virtuous life of moral excellence.

To live Godly is to have great reference for God and to keep is commandments.

These three things are how the Children of the most high God will conduct themselves. For the Grace of God teaches us to walk after the Spirit of Christ.

Romans 6:12-18
12 Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof.
13 Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God.
14 For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.
15 What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid.

16 Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?
17 But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you.
18 Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness.

Have you obeyed that form of doctrine that was delivered unto you? How that Christ died for our sins, and that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures? Have you been freed from sin? Have you been born again of the water and of the Spirit? Have you been sanctified by the blood of the Lamb and the Spirit of Christ? Have you been obedient unto the doctrine of Jesus Christ?

If not, hear it tonight!!!

Acts 2:36-39
36 Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made that same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ.

This is being born again of the water and of the Spirit. This is what the Grace of God will lead you to do so that you will have eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord

Romans 6:22-23
22 But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life.
23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Romans 5:17-19
17 For if by one man’s offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.)
18 Therefore as by the offence of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life.
19 For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous.

Now that we understand that the Grace of God teaches us to live a life of separation from ungodliness and worldly lusts, and that we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world; let’s talk about how the grace of God is applied by the process of Justification.

Romans 3:19-28
19 Now we know that what things soever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God.
20 Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin.
21 But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets;
22 Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference:
23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

24 Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:
25 Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;
26 To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus.

This is how the process of Justification by Grace takes place.

27 Where is boasting then? It is excluded. By what law? of works? Nay: but by the law of faith.
28 Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law.

Let’s look at those 3 verses again.

Romans 3:24-26 (Hear again the process of Justification by Grace)
24 Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:

Justified by grace through the regaining of possession in exchange for payment. In this case the death of Jesus Christ on the Cross of Calvary.

25 Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood,

Which means that God set forth Jesus Christ to restore friendly relations between God and man by offering a blood sacrifice to appease God for the wrong that was done unto Him by the disobedience of mankind.

to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;
26 To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus.

This means that we are justified freely by God’s grace through the death of Jesus Christ his son, that through our faith in His blood, we may obtain the free gift of Righteousness without the works of the Law, but by our obedient actions of faith in His death, burial, and resurrection.

At this time this may sound confusing to you, but will clear up in just a moment.

Romans 4:6-8
6 Even as David also describeth the blessedness of the man, unto whom God imputeth righteousness without works,
7 Saying, Blessed are they whose iniquities are forgiven, and whose sins are covered.
8 Blessed is the man to whom the Lord will not impute sin.

The Process of Justification by Grace works by imputation. Which means to charge to the account of one. To those that are obedient to God, he will ascribe to their account righteousness. Thus making God the Justifier of many without the works of the Law, and not found in we ourselves, but by the free gift of God.

This means that though you and I are worthy of death because of our inherited sins, that because Jesus Christ came and died on the Cross for us, that if we also our obedient to His death, burial, and resurrection, then because we have been covered by His blood and filled with His Spirit with the evidence of speaking in another tongue as the Spirit gives the utterance, that God will forgive us of our sins and lay to our charge, His righteousness. Thus we become righteous not by our works but by the Spirit of Christ that now resides within us.

On the flip side, God laid to the account of Jesus Christ the sin of the World. And thus Jesus Christ became sin by imputation that sin might be destroyed in His body on the Cross.

This does not mean that you no longer can sin. This means that Jesus paid the price for sin from the beginning of time to the end of time and destroyed it so that those who were obedient to Him could die a spiritual death and become alive in Christ.

If you do not partake of the born again process of God, then you have no life in you, and thus you are not only guilty of your sins but also of trodden under foot the Son of God, and counting the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done insult unto the Spirit of grace.

I say unto you, don’t let the free Gift of God, the plan of Salvation, the born again experience of the water and the Spirit, slip away from your grasp tonight. Lay hold on eternal life and fight the good fight of faith, whereunto you were also called.

Repent of your sins and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ, so that your sins can be remitted. And seek for the Spirit of God by obedience, by prayer, and by your desire to be part with Christ.

Come let us Grow Together is a weekly series that deals with the many topical categories that exist within the Word of God. The purpose of this series is to grow in wisdom, knowledge, and understanding in things pertaining to God.

Have your sins been remitted?

For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins. (Mt 26:28)

Jesus instructs his disciples to preach repentance and remission of sins in his name beginning at Jerusalem….

Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures, And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day: And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. (Lk 24:45-47)

How we receive remission of our sins….

Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call. (Acts 2:38-39)

The New Testament Covenant:

Whereof the Holy Ghost also is a witness to us: for after that he had said before, This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, saith the Lord, I will put my laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write them; And their sins and iniquities will I remember no more. Now where remission of these is, there is no more offering for sin. (Heb 10:15-18)

To partake of the New Testament Covenant one must be born again of water and of the Spirit as Jesus instructed Nicodemus.

Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother’s womb, and be born? Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. (Jn 3:4-6)

We enter into the New Testament Covenant when we are born again of water and of the Spirit. This is fulfilled by believing in Jesus Christ and then obeying what Jesus told his disciples to preach to the people. Which was repentance and remission of sins in his name beginning at Jerusalem.

When the day of Pentecost was fully come the Holy Ghost was poured out and the people began to speak with other tongues as the Spirit gave them the utterance. The Apostle Peter with the other eleven Apostles brought forth the message of what we must do to fulfill being born again of water and of the Spirit. The Apostle Peter brought forth the message that Jesus had instructed him to bring forth.

Repentance is More than saying I’m Sorry

Matthew 3:1-2
1 In those days came John the Baptist, preaching in the wilderness of Judaea,
2 And saying, Repent ye: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.

The Greek word in use for repent is:
3340. metanoeo, met-an-o-eh’-o; from G3326 and G3539; to think differently or afterwards, i.e. reconsider (morally feel compunction):–repent.

Compunction: a feeling of guilt or moral scruple that prevents or follows wrongdoing.

Repent: feel or express sincere regret or remorse.

So repentance is not only a feeling of regret or remorse for doing something wrong, but is also the changing of one’s mind or purpose afterwards. Repenting requires a change in one’s direction of thinking. The change that is taking place when you repent for a sin you have committed before God is the changing of one’s mind or will to follow after the will of God. A surrendering of your will to that of God’s will. God’s will for us is to keep His commandments. (Jn 14:15)

Continuing from Matthew 3
5 Then went out to him Jerusalem, and all Judaea, and all the region round about Jordan,
6 And were baptized of him in Jordan, confessing their sins.

When you repent for your sins, you are both acknowledging and admitting your guilt of these sins before God.

Continuing from Matthew 3
7 But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees come to his baptism, he said unto them, O generation of vipers, who hath warned you to flee from the wrath to come?
8 Bring forth therefore fruits meet for repentance:

Notice that in order for you to repent you must bring forth fruits meet for repentance. This again, is stressing the importance for us to not only acknowledge our wrongdoing and our guilt for our sins, but to be sorry for our sins and deciding to turn away from these sins to follow after God.

Remember a person is known by the fruit they produce.

Matthew 7:21
16 Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?
17 Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit.
18 A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.
19 Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.
20 Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.
21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.

Notice that not all that say Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but those that do the will of God. Again the will of God is to keep His commandments. (Jn 14:15)

Mark 1:14-15
14 Now after that John was put in prison, Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God,
15 And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel.

Notice the instructions given were to repent and to believe the Gospel. If you believe the Gospel of Jesus Christ and desire to obtain salvation of the Lord, then you must repent. For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God. (Rom 3:23)

Luke 13:2-5
2 And Jesus answering said unto them, Suppose ye that these Galilaeans were sinners above all the Galilaeans, because they suffered such things?
3 I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.
4 Or those eighteen, upon whom the tower in Siloam fell, and slew them, think ye that they were sinners above all men that dwelt in Jerusalem?
5 I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.

Repenting is not a choice but a commandment. You must repent of your sins or you will perish.

2 Corinthians 7:10
10 For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death.

Repentance is only the beginning of living your life after Christ. Repentance is the changing of your mind from following after your ways, and following after God’s ways. Meaning, you must surrender your will to the will of God. You must deny your flesh and follow after Christ.

This is not being saved by your own works. This is being saved by grace through faith. The Lord knew that it was impossible for mankind to live above sin by his own power. So He made a way for us to be pardoned of our sins. The Lord died in our place to redeem us from sin, for the soul that sins, it shall die. (Ezek 18:20)

In order for us to escape this Law of Sin and Death, the Lord died on the cross for our sins as our substitute. So that we could now partake of being born again. Not a natural birthing process of being born again of the flesh. But a spiritual birth that is fulfilled by taking part of the Lord’s death, burial, and resurrection. For we were all born in sin and shapen in iniquity. (Psa 51:5)

Repentance is only the first step in the new birth or the born again process. The fulfillment of the born again process or the new birth is found in:

Acts 2:37-39
37 Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do?
38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
39 For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.

Repenting or repentance is not a one time occurrence. The Lord knew that it was impossible for mankind to not fall short and find that they have sinned before the Lord. So He made a way for us to overcome sin by asking for forgivingness of our sins. The Lord set us free from the condemnation of the Mosaic Law and brought forth justification of life. But in order for you to obtain this justification of life, you must have partaken of the born again process and then repent when you make a mistake!!!!!

Romans 3:19-20
19 Now we know that what things soever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God.
20 Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin.

Galatians 4:4-5
4 But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law,
5 To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons.

In order for you to receive this adoption of being a son of God, you must partake of the new birth process of believing, repenting of your sins, and being born of water (baptism in Jesus name) and of the Spirit (receiving the Holy Ghost with the evidence of speaking in another tongue as the Spirit gives the utterance), or you cannot enter into the kingdom of God. (See Mk 1:14-15; Jn 3:1-7, Mk 16:16; Acts 2:1-4, Acts 2:36-39)

That is the Word of God!!!! Such a simple thing to do.

Romans 8:1-2
1 There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.
2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.

Again, this only applies to those that have the Spirit of life, which is the Spirit of Christ, which is the Spirit of God, which is the Holy Spirit, which will come into you with the evidence of speaking in another tongue as the Spirit gives the utterance.

You Must be born again!!!!!! Or you will not receive justification of life.

Also notice that the Law of the Spirit of Life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the Law of Sin and Death. For the soul that sins, it shall die. It is a PROMISE!!! (Ezek 18:20)

Also remember that what this is saying is that we are not living under condemnation (referring to the Mosaic Law, not the Law of Sin and Death) but we are living unto justification of life. Meaning, you don’t beat yourself up when you make a mistake and sin, (which is condemnation) but you instead repent of your sins, by telling God you are sorry for them, and ask Him to forgive you.

Knowing this………..

1 John 1:8-10
8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. (Freed from condemnation to live unto justification of life)
10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.

Hebrews 4:14-16
14 Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession.
15 For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.
16 Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need. (Freed from condemnation to live unto justification of life)

Unless you REPENT you will die in your sins!!!!!!

Ezekiel 18:23-29
23 Have I any pleasure at all that the wicked should die? saith the Lord GOD: and not that he should return from his ways, and live?
24 But when the righteous turneth away from his righteousness, and committeth iniquity, and doeth according to all the abominations that the wicked man doeth, shall he live? All his righteousness that he hath done shall not be mentioned: in his trespass that he hath trespassed, and in his sin that he hath sinned, in them shall he die.
25 Yet ye say, The way of the Lord is not equal. Hear now, O house of Israel; Is not my way equal? are not your ways unequal?
26 When a righteous man turneth away from his righteousness, and committeth iniquity, and dieth in them; for his iniquity that he hath done shall he die.
27 Again, when the wicked man turneth away from his wickedness that he hath committed, and doeth that which is lawful and right, he shall save his soul alive.
28 Because he considereth, and turneth away from all his transgressions that he hath committed, he shall surely live, he shall not die.
29 Yet saith the house of Israel, The way of the Lord is not equal. O house of Israel, are not my ways equal? are not your ways unequal?

In conclusion, repentance is more than just saying I am sorry, but repentance is a feeling of regret or remorse for doing something wrong as well as the changing of one’s direction. This directional change is the changing of one’s mind or will to follow after the will of God. Repentance is not an option but a commandment.

Repenting is the first step taken toward the new birth experience of being born again, as well as an on going act every time you come short of the glory of God and find that you have sinned. For the Law of Sin and Death is not the same as the Mosaic Law.

The Mosaic Law given to Moses at Mount Sinai, was given that all mouths may be stopped and that all may become guilty before God. Thus proving that no man’s works could save him from sin and thus the need of a Savior, Jesus Christ the Righteous.

Jesus Christ never destroyed the Mosaic Law, but rather He fulfilled the Law. In order for you to receive this fulfillment of the Law you must partake of the Lord’s death, burial, and resurrection.

To partake of the Lord’s death, burial, and resurrection, you must repent and be baptized (immersed in water) in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and receive the gift of the Holy Ghost, which comes into you with the evidence of speaking in another tongue as the Spirit gives the utterance.

This Law of the Spirit of Life in Christ Jesus sets us free from the Law of Sin and Death while at the same time fulfills the Mosaic Law. This fulfilling of the Mosaic Law frees us from the guilt and condemnation of not being able to be saved by our own works, but rather we are saved by the Law of Faith which allows us, by God’s grace, to have access to the Spirit of Life in Christ Jesus, which now dwells inside of us because we have been born of His Spirit.

Thus through the Law of Faith we have access to the Law of the Spirit of Life in Christ Jesus, which fulfilled the Mosaic Law of works, wherein no man is justified, and now we are justified freely by Jesus Christ without the works of the Mosaic Law.

However, if we sin we fall back under the Law of Sin and Death, which is why the Lord, our High Priest who is faithful and just to forgive us of our sins, tells us to come boldly before the throne of grace in time of need. Because no man can be justified by their own works. But instead we are justified by Jesus Christ, without the works of the Mosaic Law, through the Law of Faith.

Obedience: More than all Whole Burnt Offerings and Sacrifices

The subject I am going to be teaching on is the importance of being obedient and what it means to be obedient. To start off our teaching, I am going to read to you a scripture, that comes with great implications if one truly believes the Bible and the contents there in.

2 Timothy 3:16
16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

Do you believe it tonight? Do you believe that All Scripture is given by the inspiration of God? Do you believe that all scripture is profitable for doctrinal teaching, reproof, correction, and instruction in righteousness?

Let me explain to each of you tonight, that if you believe this verse of the Bible, that there should no longer be any divisions of Christianity. Why? Because to acknowledge that all scripture is inspired by God and profitable for doctrine, reproof, correction, and instruction in righteousness will only lead you to the one true path. I will show this to you tonight.

Since the Bible tells us that all scripture is inspired by God, there is never a time that you will use one passage of scriptures to reject another passage of scriptures. There also will never be a time that you leave out or exclude scripture because you do not understand them.

For instance:

John 3:16 says,
16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Praise God for that! And, this is true! But, just because this is true, does that mean you exclude what other scriptures also tell us to do? Like:

Mark 16:16 that reads,
16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.

But wait a minute. John 3:16 said For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Again, I ask you tonight. Does that mean we ignore that Jesus also tells us that He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.

Or should we believe what we learned in 2 Timothy 3:16? Which told us All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

Do you believe what the Bible Says? Ok. Again, since all scripture is inspired by God then we realize that you never stack one passage of scripture against another. So, God did send his son that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but we also must be baptized in his name as the bible also teaches us.

Let me give you another example:

Romans 10:9
9 {That} if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

Amen! This is true. But does that mean you no longer have to be baptized?

Acts 2:38-39 says,
38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
39 For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.

If we exclude scriptures are we being obedient to 2 Timothy 3:16 which told us, All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness?

Oh But wait,

Ephesians 2:8-9 says,
8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.

This is truth!!! But so is the baptism in Jesus name and the receiving of the Holy Ghost.

Didn’t the scriptures also tell us….

Ephesians 2:19-20
19 Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints, and of the household of God;
20 And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone;

So what did the Apostles in the Bible tell us?

What did Jesus in the Bible tell us?

John 14:15
15 If ye love me, keep my commandments.

So, we are not saved by works but by our obedient faith to the keeping of God’s commandments.

What? Know ye not that we are called for obedience to the faith for his name?

Romans 16:25-27
25 Now to him that is of power to stablish you according to my gospel, and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery, which was kept secret since the world began,
26 But now is made manifest, and by the scriptures of the prophets, according to the commandment of the everlasting God, made known to all nations for the obedience of faith:
27 To God only wise, be glory through Jesus Christ for ever. Amen.

So what does it mean that this Gospel of Jesus Christ was made known to all nations for the Obedience of Faith?

For this answer, we need to better understand how faith works. Faith requires action. Listen to what the Apostle James tells us in:

James 2:20;26
20 But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?
26 For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.

So faith takes an action of obedience to be made complete. Let me give you an example.

Let’s say I have faith that if I purchase a smoke detector for my home that it will save my life in case of a house fire. I have faith that it will save my life. However, I must be obedient to my faith that the smoke detector will work and save my life in case of a house fire.

How then? You will find that for the smoke detector to work, there were instructions given to you. One of which includes placing a battery in it so that it will have power to operate.

So in order for my faith that the smoke detector will save my life in case of a house fire to be made complete, I must follow the instructions, and place the battery into it.
If I choose not to be obedient to my faith that the smoke detector will save my life in case of a house fire, and do not install the battery, then if there is a house fire, it will not work, and thus my faith without works of obedience was dead being alone.

So we have learned that faith requires actions of obedience in order to be made complete.

Have you ever wondered how faith works? The answer can be found in:

Galatians 5:6
6 For in Jesus Christ neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision; but faith which worketh by love.

So in Jesus Christ faith is what matters. And faith works by love!!!

With this understanding, it should make more sense why the Lord said in:

John 14:15
15 If ye love me, keep my commandments.

In Jesus Christ the Lord, faith works by love. And thus if you love God, you will keep his commandments, because faith being alone is dead. For your faith to be made complete in Jesus Christ, you must be obedient to his commandments.

Romans 8:8,10
8 Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law. WHY????? Because……
10 Love worketh no ill to his neighbour: therefore love is the fulfilling of the law.

Mark 12:28-34
28 And one of the scribes came, and having heard them reasoning together, and perceiving that he had answered them well, asked him, Which is the first commandment of all?
29 And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord:
30 And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment.
31 And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these.
32 And the scribe said unto him, Well, Master, thou hast said the truth: for there is one God; and there is none other but he:
33 And to love him with all the heart, and with all the understanding, and with all the soul, and with all the strength, and to love his neighbour as himself, is more than all whole burnt offerings and sacrifices.
34 And when Jesus saw that he answered discreetly, he said unto him, Thou art not far from the kingdom of God. And no man after that durst ask him any question.

So it is of the utmost importance that we are obedient to our faith that God will save us. For this to take place. We must believe 2 Timothy 3:16 16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness.

If we truly believe this bible verse, that all scripture is given by inspiration of God, it will lead us to Acts 2:38-39 which is the plan of Salvation that God has given unto us His people, which instructs us to, “Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.”

Let me again remind everyone what the Bible teaches us of those who did not obey the truth of this Gospel of Jesus Christ’s Death, Burial, and Resurrection, in…..

2 Thessalonians 1:7-9
7 And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels,
8 In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ:
9 Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power;
